The Role
There was a very good team atmosphere, and I felt like part of the team. Work was interesting too.
My manager made me feel like I was doing an important job, and I was able to train newer recruits.
I was fairly well supported but given some independence.
At times I was way too busy, but I like it that way.
I talked things over with my manager a couple of times a week, but I was mainly trusted to look after my own experiments.
Absolutely essential! Before I started I couldn't do much more than hold a pipette; when I left I felt like a competent scientist. I have much more confidence in my own communication skills. It has also been a huge boost to my CV.
The Company
Very friendly- the other scientists were quite serious and focussed, but did like to chat!
Fairly well organised.
The initial period of training took about 2 months, and so it was some time before I actually started getting experimental results.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
I felt that I could probably quite easily get a job with them, but I wanted to do a PhD.
The Culture
I think there was but I didn't take part.
Stevenage is fairly cheap to live in.
Not much, but I didn't want to go out anyway. Work is tiring.
There were lots of classes at the GSK gym. I joined a local community choir, but dance lessons in Stevenage were too expensive.
