The Role
I highly enjoyed the internship working with a good group of people in my small team within research
I was given a few highly important reports and projects to run on my own and this created a bit of pressure but also a sense of value
My supervisors were there at all times to provide insight and or give me the email contacts of people who could provide insight as I worked on the project
I stayed on average half an hour later most days in order to get the work done and the only times I sat idle was during the initial set up period where I had a few IT issues that were resolved very slowly
I was given a huge amount of responsibility working with two apprentices on a project almost independent from our supervisor. I was also brought in on all talks with possible suppliers and felt that my opinions were regarded highly throughout the placement
I am now doing my dissertation with JLR as the industrial liaison and would have absolutely no idea about the field of research I am going into if not for this placement
The Company
The office was very relaxed and sociable however everyone had strict deadlines and so there was an ever-present seriousness element
My initial targets were extremely open-ended when I arrived but within the first 10 days these were narrowed down to fit my preferences and where I would be of most use once my supervisor understood who I was and what I was capable of
The company had many training opportunities available however the higher level ones were sometimes only available to full year placements and I also didn't have time to focus on additional training outside of my project
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
If I wasn't planning on starting my own company after university I would be back in a heartbeat. I was offered the graduate position during my placement, however, am most probably going to have to decline it.
The Culture
There was a cricket league that I played in and also often went out for dinner and drinks with my colleagues
Depending on if you were living in Coventry or Leamington Spa the price differed with Coventry being fairly well priced and Leamington rather expensive
The nightlife was pretty reasonable due to the large number of interns who all went out on Fridays together
Yes there were a few sport leagues
