The Role
I enjoyed the placement mainly because of the people there who were really friendly, would answer all my questions and were always willing to help.
Extremely valued as I won an award for some work I completed on a particular project. It was great to know that the work I completed actually helped.
We were given a counsellor who was a manager in the department to make sure we were getting the most of the experience and you could bring up any queries you had. Also if you felt the department wasn't for you then they would help you to get experience in the department you are interested in. The managers, directors and partners were all easy to approach and very friendly.
Some days you would be given task after task to do whereas other times there was hardly any work. You should use these times to perhaps work shadow or do research using the company's intranet.
On a couple of projects we were given a specific tasks so there was a lot of responsibility there. If you feel you don't have enough responsibility then it was always easy to ask if there were any project you could do yourself.
I feel I developed personal skills such as communication, organisation, time management etc. which will help me in my studies.
The Company
The atmosphere was great because the people were really friendly and helped you to settle in. It was easy to go talk to another regardless of what department they were in and how high up they were. The made a sort of relaxed environment.
Really great experience. Got to do lots of things including going to client meetings and shadowing partners/directors. Most days work was set out for the interns.
The company has a feedback scheme allowing people to give areas of improvement to help you develop even though we were there for only six weeks.
If you do well on the internship then you are likely to get a graduate job.
The Culture
As there were less than ten of us we got along really well. During the induction period we got to know each other and bonded.
The socials during the induction were really great and great to get to know everyone really well. Cost of living is quite a bit as it was close to London.
Didn't really do a night out but as we were close to London on weekends we used to go there and there are a lot of places to go!
Not really we had one social organised by the office but not many employers turned up. As interns we organised a few nights out. During the induction in Birmingham there was a social every night. It depends on which office you are placed.
