The Role
The work and responsibility that came with it were at times boring and stressful.
I felt valued by my management and by other people within the company. The colleagues were by far the best part of the job.
I was provided with lots of support and guidance by my team and by colleagues not in my immediate team. At one point work became stressful when the size of the team was reduced but that was out of managements control and they did their best to accommodate the change.
Work would often come in waves and you'd be left with too much on your plate or not enough to do, while this should give you time to work on other projects the random nature that ''ASAP'' tasks would come in could leave you strapped for time.
The opportunity of responsibility is there for those who choose to take it. Changes in staff which does happen fairly often can also lead to responsibility's piling up when you didn't always want them.
The personal and working skills gained through my year at Mattel will undoubtedly be useful in my final year and in work beyond.
The Company
Hopefully the ''wonder'' initiative will lead to improvements in this respect
The company offer a lot of training sessions as part of the placement set up and offer ever more optional classes to improve in all elements of work.
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
If Mattel is a working environment and style that you enjoy then there's opportunities to return. It wont be for everyone.
The Culture
Because of location you'll likely need a car to get to and from work so after work socializing is non existent. The interns did go out a few times.
socializing is pretty much as expensive as London prices. Rent is fairly expensive
London is close by train but you'll need a place to stay. Local nightclubs are few and far between and aren't great.
Other than Football for the guys I don't think there's any organised activities.
