The Role
My internship at Dyson was truely an amazing experience. Nowhere else have I seen the sheer friendliness, camaraderie and willingness to help you. No matter how difficult your task was, you felt confident in tackling it because there was no shortage in amazing people that were all happy to help you.
I was part of the team from the first day, and whilst it would have been nice to have a quick meeting with everyone on my team to get to know them, I quickly got to know them. They were all extremely welcoming and I never had any issues.
I had a weekly meeting with my Line Manager and was always working alongside my Team Leader so I was always given guidance when necessary and was given advice on working on my weaknesses and capitalising on my strengths.
Work varied day by day - sometimes I had too much on my plate, whereas other times I'd be quite relaxed. This was mostly due to the fact that I'd accept any and all jobs to ensure I had something to do. I didn't have an overarching project, so I got to experience a little of everything.
I was put in charge of a couple of small projects that I could work on by myself and was able to report on my design decisions to my manager. It was a great experience as it put me in the deep end.
My design skills have improved magnitudes above where they were before, as have my prototyping skills. Both will be extremely useful for me as I go into my last year at university. I also received a lot of high-quality training classes in things like CAD, risk assessments and a whole host of other things.
The Company
Team camaraderie was always high and there was always a light atmosphere in the team. If there were deadlines to be met, the whole team would be happy to chip in and help each other. People always went for coffee breaks together and had a chat at lunch time.
Very well set up, everything was organised for us and the HR and Early Talent team were always extremely efficient at helping us with any issues we had. A couple of issues with getting access to the requisite software and ensuring that you were able to get onto training courses that were relevent to your job. Would be very helpful to get these organised before you get to Dyson to avoid people waiting for months to be able to work on their area.
Lots of courses and training days which really boosted my skill set and allowed me a lot of new opportunities. Lots of flexibility in terms of picking what kinds of trainig and development you wanted to get involved in.

Great place to work and I would definitely go back.
The Culture
All the other placement students were very friendly, but everyone tended to only interact with people on placement who started on the same day as you. There was little cross group interaction. A few outside-of-work activities were organised but compared to other internships in the past, this was a bit dissapointing.
Malmesbury was cheap, but there wasn't much socialising to be done.
None to speak of, Malmesbury was quite boring.
Summer Fair was lots of fun and there were a few activities - none that were organised by work though, aside from the Summer Fair. People very much see work as separate to socialising on many teams, other teams are constantly organising new things.
