The Role
Regarding Information Technology Lubrizol is an amazing learning environment. You will be exposed to an array of new experiences and challenges they are willing to invest in their students. The Hazelwood department is friendly and supportive and are willing to tailor your student experience depending on your interests.
Everyone was patient and willing to help. All of my colleagues were well informed and did not mind explaining each of their roles and allowing me to help when I could. I wish to mention specifically the Networking team as they helped me realise many underlying concepts that are industry standards.
We would have regular meetings to go over my progress and if an area of improvement was identified they were willing to help me improve. When I asked for specific help my Manager would do as much as she could and if it was an issue in a specific area would arrange help me arrange meetings with experts within the company.
As it is both a support and project focused role I always found that I had something to do. If I felt I could take on more my manager was very approachable and would always have another task that I could help with.
Regarding projects you are treated as a young professional. As I stated earlier Lubrizol is willing to invest in you. You will be given long running projects with very real benefits and consequences to the business. This being said Lubrizol encourages communication so you would be encouraged to setup regular meetings with involved parties.
I am currently in My 3rd year of University and I have already noticed an improvement in the quality of my work, I wholeheartedly think this is because of Lubrizol's influence on me. The various technical areas I was exposed to have allowed me to apply practical elements to theoretical essays and reports and have also allowed me to exhibit new technical skills. I also find I am a lot better at working under pressure and that I have also developed the ability to effectively multi-task
The Company
I was working within a open plan office which facilitated open communication among staff. This would often lead to casual discussion during quiter moments. I loved the atmosphere as I said earlier everyone is very friendly and supportive and are always willing to help.
Lubrizol is by far the most organised operation I have been a part of. They have a clear and comprehensive knowledge base full of documentation on their various systems which is constantly being evaluated. You are also required to work to a calendar to ensure task we're achieved on time and in a professional manner.
So so much. I now have experience with active directory, Cisco equipment, ITIL frameworks, windows server 2012, Avaya telephone environments and so much more all because Lubrizol try to expose you to as many different environments as possible.

Working from home
Sadly Lubrizol have a fixed headcount and as such it is quite hard to gain a role after the initial placement. This being said most of the current employees in the Hazelwood office are previous placement students which shows if a position opens up they are inclined to hiring previous students. If a role ever opens up I know for a fact that I am going for it.
The Culture
The student community in Lubrizol is amazing with many of the students living together. Even if you don't wish to associate with students the IT team is just as accommodating with many lunchtime meals and work outings.
So the closest City is Derby. If you have ever lived in Derby you will know the cost of living is significantly cheaper than most cities and there is a thriving town with many community focused establishments also Bars and Clubs if you are into those sort of things.
Derby's nightlife is ok there are loads of restaurants and several clubs but there are less than a larger metropolitan areas.
Yes, there is a sports and social club that organised many trips and sporting team events.
