The Role
I enjoyed my internship immensely. The projects which were set were not only challenging but extremely fulfilling, as I was made to directly contribute to real time issues the firm was facing.
Due to the fact that my branch and team were relatively small scale, the work relationship with colleagues was easy going. I was given relatively important task to carry out and my opinions were held in regard.
Fortnightly supervisory meetings with my senior manager were a great source of support, such meetings allowed me some insight into the way I was performing and what aspects of my work could be improved upon.
Due to the project orientated basis of the work I was performing, I found my work balance to be almost perfect. I had a wide variety of projects to work upon, some which required quicker turnaround time, and some which were long term projects. Alternating between these kind of tasks allowed me to schedule and manage my work balance optimally.
Due to the relatively short nature of the internship, I was surprised to receive work tasks which required me to contribute to important meetings and client arrangements, this was the common theme throughout my internship. It was challenging and rewarding to be entrusted with such responsibility.
My general working skills and intra work relationships have received a massive boost from my internship. Not only have I had the chance to work with important and experience clients, I have developed a whole new perspective when it comes to assessing myself and my performance. Such improvements have allowed me to not only work better within my degree, but life as a whole.
The Company
As was earlier stated, the relatively small size of the office contributed to the largely quirky and relaxed atmosphere which helped put most employees at ease.
The planning of the internship was superbly set out. Although some logistical problems did occur in terms IT inductions and such, but overall the placement was generally orchestrated as smoothly as possible.
The firm has invested a lot in me as a person and potential employee. Due to the fact that it is beneficial to the firm to retain interns which they feel match their ambition. No expenses were spared in getting the interns up to scratch and ready for potentially returning to the firm after their degrees.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
I was retained by the firm, and will be returning after my degree is complete.
The Culture
All interns within my cycle were close knit, and the social and final events were made even better by the general flow of banter and familiarity with one another. Something which was developed as a result of the 5 day induction.
As someone who was placed in a NW office, the cost of living within the city I was located is relatively small. Special nights which see a reduction in social costs make it the perfect city for an undergraduate.
As was stated earlier, low socialising costs make the night life and social bars atmospheric as quite a fair few people generally tend to flock to the social centres during the weekends.
The firm provides opportunities to get involved with extra curricular activities, especially on their CSR days. One of such days involved interns helping out in local community centres and charities.
