The Role
I very much so enjoyed my summer internship at EY. I was really excited about this internship as I had heard so many great things about the programme, and it did not disappoint! I found everyone to be really welcoming and I cannot believe how much I learnt over the six weeks!
During my time at EY, I felt well valued. I had no prior experience in this area, however, I was trusted by my team and was working with some of the larger clients. My team always provided feedback on my work, both positive and constructive criticism, which I found very useful. I was always encouraged to share my thoughts and ideas, and I felt that my team really valued my input.
I always felt well supported on this internship. My manager provided me with an extensive induction to the work that I would be completing and I had frequent progress meetings, where my manager provided feedback on the work that I was doing. The HR team were also on hand to answer any questions and provide support.
Most days, I stayed fairly busy- there was never days that I had nothing to do. I had on-going project work to be completing, as well as ad hoc tasks that my team would give me. On days that were less busy, I would spend time researching EY clients and networking with new colleagues in different departments.
Whist at EY, I was given a decent amount of responsibility. Although I could take ownership of my work, I always had the support of my line manager and team, and my manager would always check over my work before it was submitted to clients. But overall, I was pleased with the level of responsibility I was given.
I found there to be a strong emphasis on personal development whilst at EY, and as a result, developed many new skills that will benefit me going forwards. I vastly improved my networking ability and greatly improved in confidence over the six weeks. I feel the knowledge gained will also benefit me in my university work.
The Company
I really enjoyed the general atmosphere at EY! It was a lot livelier that I was anticipating and I found everyone to be friendly and up for a laugh. The open plan office makes it easy to talk to new people and I would also chat to someone new if I was making a coffee.
I really found not fault the organisation of this summer internship, and due to the long running nature of the programme, the organisers really have it down to a T! Before I began the programme, the HR team provided frequent communication. The internship followed a clear structure and there were lots of sessions organised for us to improve our skills.
Well invested in!

Fantastic!!
The Culture
I really enjoyed the social aspect to the summer internship. I bonded well with my team and we would try to go out for a drink on a weekly basis. They also organised a really nice meal out when I was leaving, which was a really nice way to finish the placement. Furthermore, there was a good social scene amongst interns.
London is expensive, but this was always to be expected. For me personally, the benefits of being in such a lively and exciting city outweigh the cost factor. My biggest outgoing was rent, although it can be easy to find some good deals as many people rent out rooms over the summer period. Travel and lunch costs were also high, however, EY does provide a generous intern salary.
There is a really great nightlife in the local area. Being based at London Bridge, there are so many bars and restaurants nearby. Many of these offer good happy hour deals! From London Bridge, it is also really easy to get to other parts of the city, as there are really great transport links in this area.
Lots of sporting and charity opportunities.
