The Role
My internship was really enjoyable. I worked with fantastic people and was able to gain valuable knowledge and insight into the banking sector.
I felt valued and trusted within the organisation. This was evident in my workload and responsibilities, as I was assigned to do complex projects and tasks.
Support was always available from those who I worked with, but the onus was placed upon me to ask for help when needed.
As time went by I became more and more integrated in the daily work cycle, and had my own responsibilities which kept me busy.
As I proved that I was capable and hard working the level of responsibility placed upon me increased. I was trusted with tasks that were challenging and important, but wasn't expected to do things beyond my level of understanding or knowledge.
The experience and skills gained whilst on my internship has helped me decide a career in finance is for me. As a result I have chosen finance and economic based modules at university to better understand and prepare myself for my career.
The Company
A pleasant and professional environment. I received great career advice and plenty of support.
The internship programme with Handelsbanken seems fairly new, and it is structured and coordinated well.
I felt like Handelsbanken invested heavily in me, even to the extent that I was offered part time work when I returned to university.
Company Parties/Events
There are fantastic opportunities for young people within Handelsbanken. The bank is growing and they are looking for young, capable and promising people to join their workforce.
The Culture
We were encouraged to meet with other interns, and even swap branches so we could be exposed to be a wider culture and knowledge within the bank. We were mentored by young employees who had been on the internship programme themselves.
I was able to work at a branch close to where I live, so there was no extra travel or living costs.
I was invited and encouraged to take place in social events after work, and was able to broaden my network of professionals in the area.
