The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed it. My team were very good in giving me work and making me feel like part of the team. it has provided me with knowledge and skills which I can take forward with mw to future roles. The culture of the organisation is great and the people you get to meet and work with are also very friendly
I felt very valued by my colleagues. Interns may initially feel as though they are "just interns" and so don't have a lot to offer. My team made sure that wasn't the case and allowed me to showcase what I had to offer. They allowed me to make a contribution to the team.
My manager was very supportive. Although he wasn't always around which is not unexpected as he is quite busy, we had weekly one to one meetings where we would review what has happened over the past week. We would address any issues that need to be addressed and plan how things will be in the following week.
I was busy sometimes and really free at other times. The nature of the work is sometimes there are deadlines especially as month ends or year ends approach but at other times there isn't much work going on. Whenever there is though if I offered to take on work I would get it handed to me.
Reasonable amount of responsibility. Wasn't given a very high amount of responsibility but that is expected as an intern. The best part is that I was given responsibility for my own work and my own schedules. As long as I got the work done nobody would pay attention as to what I spent my time doing and when I had my lunch breaks.
Not so much in my degree but in future work it would definitely be of value. Excel skills was the best skill which i developed which is incredibly useful in the financial industry. Other skills about co-ordination and how to operate well in a team was very useful and I hope to take forward in work and in future studies.
The Company
Very relaxed. Even the dress style was business casual and the atmosphere was very calm all around. People were getting work done but there wasn't immense pressure and generally everybody was just friendly and getting their work done. Occasionally we would have little fun sessions to keep us motivated for the whole day.
Kind of organised but not very. I thought it was very bizarre in that whenever you try reach the recruitment team they usually say conflicting things and are difficult to reach. Areas like switching to other teams are very difficult and not supported by recruitment. Even the location I was given was not one of the locational preferences they asked me for in the first place!
They invested time in allowing me to learn from colleagues and apply myself in the work environment. There are a lot of learning resources available on the intranet for people who want to develop in certain areas and skills. As an intern though no money was invested but of course that is expected as well.
Working from home
Not so bad
The Culture
yup
Socialising was great fun and we were all put in the same accommodation which allowed us to meet up after work and relax. The cost of living was low just because accommodation was paid for by the bank so we didn't have to pay for that which is a big advantage. The building had a lot of facilities which we would use during the weekends.
pretty good night life, the city has a lot to do in terms of night life and just things to do over the weekend
not really as i was there for a short time
