The Role
My placement was brilliant! I really really enjoyed it. Not only did I get managerial experience that not many other placements offer but I met some really amazing people along the way as well. If you are looking for a hospitality placement then definitely apply for this one!
The company were so good at making sure everyone felt welcome when we first joined. Throughout my placement I was always treated as a assistant manager not like an undergraduate which meant a lot to me. Everyone I met were so lovely and really made you feel at ease.
We had so much support! We had 2 personal mentors who we met up with regularly to discuss how everything was going as well as having regular development days at Restaurant Support which really helped us find support in each other.
Very! But that is what I loved about it. There was never a dull moment and each day differed to the rest. There was always something to be doing whether that was doing new forecasting or rota's to stock counts and ordering and then managing the restaurant floor.
I was an assistant manager from day one. I was responsible for kpi's within the restaurant, I had my own incentives to run and monitor as well as looking after service and making sure our team were performing the best they could do! I was also responsible for making sure the restaurant hit its budgets and was ready for the company audits.
The skills I learnt over placement will stay with me for a very long time. I really got to grips with my leadership style and so it will definitely help me in the future. I also became a lot more organised throughout my placement, something which I will carry through to my final year.
The Company
The restaurant I was in was great. I got on well with my fellow management team and all the team were great too. We had regular team parties to help bond everyone together.
The placement was well organised. They had set dates for meetings and development days from the start which was great to know. We also had 12 weeks training when we first joined which was also well organised.
The company did so much for me in terms of investing in my development. We had regular days at restaurant support focusing on us and areas of self development, we had a comprehensive 12 week training program to ease us into the company as well as two induction days in restaurant support.
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I have been lucky to secure an offer for full time employment when I graduate and so I would say that it is very appealing!
The Culture
Yes definitely! We all made great friends and are still all in contact with each other. It was really helpful having the others on the placement with me as we could all share experiences and offer little tips to each other.
I lived at home during placement year and so the cost for me was relatively low.
I was based in Sheffield and so the night life was brilliant!
Yes there were many opportunities depending on our restaurants performance but there was also organised area away days for assistant managers which was good as you got to meet all the other assistants from your area,
