The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed the placement and learnt a lot.
Brilliant team who made me feel welcome. My work also contributed to the team as much as anyone else’s.
Brilliant supervisor who was there any time I need to ask a question. I could also ask anyone else in the team and department for help if I needed it.
Usually had a large, but manageable work load which kept me busy. Always work to do. Only in the first few weeks was it a little bit slow because I was getting used to working there.
I was responsible for synthesising the compounds I was asked to do. I didn’t hold any responsibility which I felt I couldn’t handle.
I developed many skills, particularly in the lab. I also improved in my presentation giving skills.
The Company
Most people were good fun, although everyone was there to work. There was a good balance.
The placement was extremely well organised. The company put on lecture/trips for the placement students to enhance our overall experience. We were also asked out opinions on new initiatives.
My supervisor/team were the people who helped me develop, rather than the company itself.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
GSK are not employing graduates. Potential employees will need a PhD and probably a post-doctorate.
The Culture
Made excellent friends during my placement. Something social happened every weekend.
Reasonable. Although any trips into London were obviously expensive.
Poor nightlife. But great fellow placement students which meant you could have a good time.
I got involved in 1 or 2 regualr activites outside of work. There were not many options other than the gym.
