About You
The three insight days at Nomura were a really enjoyable experience! Unlike some investment bank insights, I did not find it to be aggressive and intimidating, instead everyone was welcoming and friendly. The insight programme at Nomura is really useful for personal development and I learnt at lot of new information, as well as developed new skills.
The HR team that supervised us throughout the programme were welcoming and made us feel valued throughout our time at Nomura, taking the time to get to know us individually. Employees made us feel valued as they took time out of their hectic schedules to speak with us and this was a very beneficial experience.
Support and guidance was offered throughout the time at Nomura. As mentioned, representatives from HR supervised us at all times and we could ask them any questions we had. During the employability skills sessions, we received guidance on our CVs. We also had mock interviews and we were given pointers for improvement etc. I found this guidance really useful.
This insight programme at Nomura is really beneficial for personal development and I will use the skills and knowledge that I develop during my time here in the future. I vastly developed my understanding of the investment sector and this is beneficial for my degree, as well as in future interviews.
The Company
Overall, I found the insight days to be well structured. We had a good timetable of activities and these were tailored at our personal development. We had a good mixture of skills based workshops (such as interview technique and analytical skill development) and networking sessions. There was the occasional time when we didn’t have anything plan and this would be my only criticism.
Really great general atmosphere! Everyone on the programme was friendly and open, and there was a good atmosphere among the interns. We all seemed to just naturally click, which made completing the group tasks enjoyable. I found the full time Nomura employees to be really friendly and there was an enjoyable atmosphere in the office.
I felt well invested in by Nomura over the course of the three insight days. Although the programme was only short, we had so many useful sessions aimed at our personal development. Over the course of the day we had sessions which included presentation skills and interview preparation, which I found to be particularly beneficial.
During the insight, we had the opportunity to speak to a variety of different full time employees. This was really useful in gaging what day-to-day working life is like at the bank. Employees were honest in their answers and it was good for understanding factors such as work-life balance and employee benefits.
This insight at Nomura is very beneficial in understanding the company culture. Nomura is quite unique in its culture and its Japanese heritage sets it aside from more traditional American and European banks. From my understanding, the bank works very much on meritocracy and has a less aggressive hieratical structure of governance.
Whilst I found the content of the programme beneficial and the insight really useful, it actually confirmed to me that I wanted to pursue a career in accountancy (I did several internship in this before Nomura). Whilst the insight did not make me what to pursue a career at Nomura, it did in fact help me determine another career path, and because of this I found it useful.
Everything Else
Reimbursed travel expenses.
There are so many opportunities to network whilst at Nomura and this is really one of the highlights of the insight. We were able to network with employees ranging from junior positions to rather quite senior members of the bank. Having the variety, gave me a really good overview of the bank.
Really great!
Lots of opportunities!
Absolutely!
