    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Out of the scale 1-10 I would give this internship a 9! It was incredibly enjoyable and well structured. There was an intern manager with us throughout everything who was exceptionally helpful planning practise interview and CV writing sessions to increase our employability. There was also a strong social side to things, we met for drinks and ate lunch together most days.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 9-Really friendly and helpful. Everyone in my team was lovely and we had a lot of events (pub quizzes and lunches) during which to get to know each other. I would definitely recommend the culture of CRUK, it's one of the main reasons I was so keen to stay here in a permanent position.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 9- I always felt that my personal development was of high importance but also that the internship was what I wanted to make of it. My manager was always happy to help me develop specific skills I'd highlight and would think about ways in which I could practice and improve them. When it came to applying for jobs within the company I felt extremely supported after having CV review sessions and practice interviews.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 4- Living cost would be very high (I don't live in Angel.) The pubs around are pretty expensive but CRUK have discounts which makes it doable. Also lunch expenses are paid for!

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 10- Yes! As well as intern fundraising (where we sold candy canes, organized a netball tournament, a pub quiz and a bake sale), there were also lots of volunteering opportunities. I bucket collected at an England game and received a free ticket to the match! Other interns I know went to balls and events where they volunteered and had a great time. Organizing the netball tournament has inspired me to try and get together a mixed team for future tournaments.
