The Role
A great balance between some extremely interesting work with a high degree of exposure, where I had a great deal of responsibility for someone as inexperienced as me, and the social events that had been arranged.
I could see where the work I completed fitted into my colleagues' actual projects and they made it known to me the importance of the work I had completed for them.
My 'buddy' assigned at the beginning of the internship was particularly helpful in providing me with support and guidance, as were the other colleagues for whom I completed work.
Even though the work I had occupied me for a few days per project, at no point did I feel that I had too much on and was never feeling as though I was struggling to cope. The internship had an excellent balance in terms of the amount of work I had.
For someone with as little experience as me, I felt there was very little extra Ernst & Young could have done by way of giving me more to do or more high-level work to do.
I'm hoping to further my development at Ernst & Young itself!
The Company
Very lively and extremely easy to become integrated into
Before the internship started, we had been given a very comprehensive introduction pack from Graduate Recruitment at Ernst & Young and at no point was I confused about any of the arrangements.
The firm made sure that throughout the internship, I was absorbing as much information as possible to make the experience as worthwhile as possible. Whilst on a monetary level there may not have ben much in the way of investing in my personal training and development, it was an internship that I was completing, as opposed to a full-time graduate role. My colleagues did ivnest a lot of time in me however, ensuring that any loose ends or gaps in knowledge were quickly filled.
Company Parties/Events
Extremey appealing. I can definitely see myself at the firm for a long time.
The Culture
Of the people from the Leeds and Manchester offices, we were very active socially and arranged a couple of events where we were able to meet again after having met each other during the induction at Liverpool. Subsequently, I have kept in touch with 3 of the interns from my office. Even at the offices, regardless of title, there was an excellent social scene amongst the colleagues, wih events ranging from pub gatherings to football matches.
Leeds was extremely cheap and as a place to live, it was very easy to get around for socialising
Because of the lack of students, none of the clubs had nights out but the bars in the city centre still provided a very good experience.
A number of the colleagues pitched a number of activities they were involved in, such as football and charity fundraising, and they were very open to all of the interns joining in.
