The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. I felt that I had a lot of responsibility and thus high satisfaction. I got to work with different people (different audit teams) and work in different environments (e.g. at audit clients).
I was given a lot of responsibility which made me feel valued as it felt that they had a high level of trust in me.
They explained to me what I had to do and showed me forms which had been used in previous years so that I could get a clear idea of what was required.
I had a lot of work to do as I was the only intern in my office. However, this meant that I was not bored (I'd rather be busy than have nothing to do!). Also, there was a lot of time pressure on some of the audits but I feel that this would become easier with experience.
I was quite surprised at the amount of responsibility I was given during my placement. I made me feel very appreciated.
I feel I gained a lot of skills. It was my first experience of life in a graduate job and in a professional accounting practice. I got to travel and meet new people which I feel has made me more comfortable with changing situations.
The Company
I found the office very good. Everyone was very nice and friendly. Also, my office was small so it had a family feel as everyone knew each other.
I was always busy doing work. I had been assigned on audits of companies from a broad range of sectors.
There wasn't that much official training apart from the IT induction. It was mostly learning whilst on the job - I felt that was quite good as I could see how theory worked in practice.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
I am starting work with them on 31st August 2012
The Culture
There was a central induction in Birmingham which was brilliant. It was a chance to feel a part of Ernst & Young and to meet new people who were in the same situation as me (a bonus as I was the only intern in my office). There was also a final party where all of the UK interns could have a catch up and discuss their internships.
Didn't really socialise in my area - I was away overnight on audits most of the time.

There was many opportunities as I was away overnight on audits most of the time. However, I was told that events are organised throughout the year.
