The Role
I really enjoyed the role but it wasn’t a position I could see myself doing in a permanent position.
I got on very well with all people in my department. They made me feel valued just like a normal member of the team, and I wasn’t treated any differently for being a student.
I felt I was often left to my own devices but this also gave me the experience of being in a real working environment.
I was busy enough that I always had something to do. There was always the option for overtime whenever I wished.
I Jointly led a small team in the tasks that I was responsible for, alongside a permanent member of staff.
My placement helped me to further develop my IT skills which assisted me when I returned to uni. I also got a graduate position within a month of leaving uni which was I was partly offered based on the fact that I had completed a year in industry.
The Company
There was a mix of fun and seriousness which allowed me to find a balance of a real working environment.
When I first started I felt that it was poorly organised and that there wasn’t really enough provision for me. However as time went on this feeling changed and I felt like any normal member of staff in a permanent position.
I felt that the company invested a lot of time training me, however I did feel towards the end of my placement that as I wasn’t remaining as an employee and therefore was unable to progress in this role that this meant that I was left behind.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Healthcare/Dental
I was offered a job with the company, however I chose not to take this as I would have had to relocate.
The Culture
Fellow placement students were in separate departments and I didn’t have anything to do with them. There was a good social scene within my department which certainly made up for this.
The cost of living was very reasonable as the area is very heavily populated with students and therefore it is well catered to this.
Fantastic! I had so much fun over the year but sometimes felt a little worse for Wear at work on Fridays!
There were no activities linked to my placement however there was plenty to do within the city.
