The Role
Working at such a renounced company was great, lots of experience and development to be had
My manager was great, very laid back so could easily get on with him. Other people i worked with were similar, its generally a friendly enviroment
I could always go to my supervisor for help and he would be more than happy to go through something with me. Despite him nearly always working away from the office i could always skype him or screen share something
Some weeks/days could be quiet with not much to do whilst others could be busy. Not much of a problem most of the time as different enviroments help to challenge you
This is more what you make of it. You could keep doing you're normal role or expand into other self driven projects where you lead it. I was involved in a big project at the start which was nice and can be the front face of GE when contacting customers
The internship i chose heavily related to my degree, i learnt and expanded a lot i already studied in university. Having real world knowledge of buisness IT and applications really helps GE will give you lots of insight on how a corporate buisness is ran, extremely helpful for future jobs
The Company
Average, there are a few fun things such as cake sales and christmas buffet things but overall not much happens.
handover periods allow you to learn your role with the previous intern, pretty helpful.
You dont exactly get qualifications, but there is a GE learning tool that has some things. You get a lot of development from your day to day work
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
Im assuming you may get a better chance in the future, there are a few graduate programs but i think theyve cut down on them. Making a lot of connections working with lots of the employees could be very worthwhile for the future when applying again, its skipping the HR hurdle
The Culture
There were a few things we did being close to london
Being close to london in a already high class area means it can be expensive I was lucky for accomodation as i grabbed a relatively normal priced flat that was nice near the office, others however spent a lot on living and rent which is a problem on the wage they give us
Nothing around the work as its in a small town, thankfully theres a tube route directly to london
