The Role
I really enjoyed my internship, it has given me a good insight into how charities operate and a good taste for public sector work.
I've felt valued by my colleagues the whole time, they're always grateful for the work I do and often ask my advice too which makes me feel valued.
I was given guidance and support by my team whenever I needed it, it's great how flexible the internship is and how I could work from home when I needed to for external reasons.
It varied across the internship, for the first month or so I wasn't so busy, and would rarely do a full day of work. However I've got a lot busier now I'm settled, and the days fly by.
I was given a good level of responsibility, I feel like I've become more confident with work and in my own abilities. I was left to get on with things which made me feel like my team trusted me to do a good job!
Hopefully this experience will help me in all future work, it's a foot in the door into the public sector that I really needed. I've developed not just skills but the language to talk about those skills, which is incredibly important for job applications and my future career.
The Company
Always fun and friendly, I loved coming into work.
My manager was really good at staying organised and keeping track of everything I was doing which was really helpful. The internship itself and its personal development stuff was also great. The only thing I'd say was that it did take a while to get set up on everything, probably only after 2 months did I have access to most of what I needed.
I felt like CRUK definitely invested in me as a person, as well as an employee. I have received invaluable support from Esther including CV support which has really helped my confidence in work.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Working from home
I'd love to come back and work here in the future.
The Culture
All of the interns got on really well which really added to the internship. I've made a couple of friends which I feel like I'll stay in contact with for a long time.
Angel is an expensive area, but there are plenty of places to get cheap lunches and discounted drinks. It definitely helped having the discount at Radicals, that was really useful for after work drinks.
The bars were good from what I've seen, wish I had longer to explore the area as I'm not sure.
Yes there were lots of opportunities to get involved in social activities and events outside of work, like bucket collections and other volunteering and fundraising events
