    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight programme and definitely found it to be beneficial. All the staff and previous vacation scheme students provided a lot of insight into the journey and transition from university to working in the firm. Through the insight programme, I have found new sectors of law that interest me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt really valued as an individual. All the staff and previous vacation scheme students were extremely friendly and created a welcoming environment and atmosphere which was very different to what one would expect of such a large, international law firm. There was also tons of positive reinforcement and support.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There was a standard amount of support during the insight programme. The financial sector definitely was covered well in terms of presentations and information. Definitely would be interested in hearing more from the other sectors at DLA Piper, but am wary of the limited time and the possible difficulties of doing so.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed and information I have received will assist me in my degree (LLB Law) as this the first hand experience has provided me with the opportunity to broaden my horizons in relation to law and provided me with information and tips for applying yo vacation schemes in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight programme was well structured for the most part. Emails filled with information about the insight day before it occurred were extremely helpful and the information provided during the insight day through the various papers and pamphlets aided with time management and being aware of the roles of presenters. Wish there was a bit more information on the first day of the programme in terms of itinerary to know what to expect.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere at the DLA Piper insight programme was lovely, extremely friendly and positive. It was definitely nice going to the Italian restaurant which allowed us to experience what it would be like to wine and dine clients. In terms of the programmer itself all the staff had a positive attitude and outlook

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt that I was extremely well invested in! I would be really surprised to find another programme that would invest so heavily in first-year students. The various workshops and activities DLA Piper arranged demonstrated that the firm was dedicated to our personal development. The full timetable of workshop, lectures, and team building activities were extremely beneficial.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Every firm talks about the good aspects of working for the firm because they are trying to attract you, but I asked a lot of questions to find out more about the day to day aspects of the job and all the employees seemed very genuine about their experience and the environment within the company.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I think the firm's culture is professional but they have a good relationship especially since everyone has gone through the support system and transition from studying to working so they had a common understanding. They seemed to be good friends and mentioned you can always ask a coworker for advice.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the insight programme was invaluable. I've always had this misconception that specific types of law were boring, but the programme really opened my eyes to different sectors and showed that I may have interests I did not previously recognized. Each day is so different and you make such an impact on your clients life. I think it will be a terrific career path.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were definitely adequately reimbursed for this experience. DLA Piper provided us with 3 days of accommodation in the Point A hotel as well as reimbursed traveling expenses for up to £50 from destinations more than sixty minutes of travel away from London. This was extremely helpful as it made the programme more accessible to everyone.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, there were many opportunities to network and you should take advantage of it. We got to network with everyone from previous summer scheme students and partners. You got insight from everyone's perspective which was nice. The insight programme also provided a practice networking session which was extremely helpful as some of us had never experienced networking beforehand.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • We got to have various meals with some of the current partners as well as some of the summer scheme students which was a bit more informal. We were able to chat about their experiences, from application to exams to what they are currently working on. We also got to ask questions during the presentations.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, we found out about their social activities, team building days and events they take part of as a team. They all said that it was really enjoyable, while they work hard they also have a lot of fun. We also learnt about their pro bono work all over the world which was extremely insightful and it was nice to see how rewarding the various projects were to all the employees

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, I would definitely recommend the DLA Piper insight programme to any friend who is considering a career in law or even if they are unsure of what career path they want to take in the future. All the employees were extremely friendly and created a welcoming environment. The insight provided was undoubtedly beneficial to the other students and I.
