About You
A lot of guidance was provided on employability skills, and that will be valuable going forward. For example, the talk delivered on CVs is directly applicable to applications I will make to employers in the future. Additionally, the various talks delivered by members of DLA Piper provided a unique view into what they believe to be the best aspects of DLA Piper. Those talks will help me make a more informed decision on whether to apply for a vacation scheme at the firm.
The Company
The general atmosphere throughout the insight was professional with a sprinkling of fun. It was quite clear when the organizers wanted us to focus, and when they wanted us to let go. This atmosphere was comforting, and provided the students with the perfect opportunity to apply themselves and get fully immersed in the firm.
The most surprising aspect of the program was the investment into it. High-profile members of the firm would appear one after the other to deliver informative talks to the students. In all likelihood, these partners bill incredible amounts by the hour, so to see them invest their time into the students made me appreciate the program.
DLA Piper provided students in the program with an insight into how a full time role may be, by exposing the students to firm members of varying levels. By being exposed to people occupying seats of different levels, I was able to appreciate how they felt about the firm and this gave me a unique insight.
Everything Else
Every moment of the day was rife with opportunities to network with employees of the firm. At every meal, trainees would be present and they would give their view on the firm. Additionally, graduate recruitment were ever present, and that provided its own opportunity to gain contacts within the firm.
The networking events were all paid for in full by DLA Piper. Ranging from meals everyday, to restaurants fully rented out—DLA Piper exceeded all expectations one would hold when going to an event akin to this. If anything, I would recommend the event simply for the stellar food provided throughout.
