About You
I really enjoyed the insight programme. It was very well organised and highly enjoyable with a variety of activities and presentation. In addition, everyone there were very relaxed and the other student were very friendly and sociable which all added to this wonderful experience. I did indeed enjoy the insight.
During my time here at the firm, I did indeed feel very valued. From day one, I was greeted with kindness and everyone I spoke to were very nice to me and made me feel welcome. The hospitality was great too. The food and the accommodation was amazing which made me feel even more valued.
I received a lot of support when and if I needed it. If had any questions or concerns, they would be easily answered. Equally, during any activities that we did, there was a lot of guidance on offer and the trainees were more than happy to assist when I or my team needed help.
The information was very useful indeed. I learnt more about the firm itself and what a career in commercial law entails. Indeed, this was very insightful and the information that I received has most certainly helped me decide whether a career in commercial law is for me. Equally, I was able to develop my soft skills which I believe will help in the future.
The Company
The programme was very well structured. There were a lot of events that were organised and with specific time slots. Indeed, everyone was very efficient which aided the smooth running of the programme. Instructions were clear and easy to follow and communication regarding accommodation and time were also very clear.
The general atmosphere was great during the insight. There was a lot of enthusiasm and interest throughout the event, despite the early starts. Everyone was kind and sociable and the evening dinner that was organised further added to the great atmosphere. Indeed, I most certainly had a lot of fun.
In terms of personal training and development, I think the firm did a lot to invest me. We were provided with many presentations that aided in my own development. Most significantly, group project that we had to do did indeed contribute to my personal training as it taught what it is like to work within a group regarding matter concerning commercial law.
The insight did indeed help me to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with firm. The presentations aided in my understanding of the work done by this firm and the opportunity to network with associate and trainees too developed my understanding of what it would be like to work here at DLA Piper.
The insight did indeed help me understand the company culture. The ability to network with trainees, allowed to me gain their perspective of the culture. Equally, I was able to observe the way that the trainees, associate and partners interacted and behaved with each other and this allowed to gain a better understanding of the culture, which is indeed great.
The content of the day was very valuable in helping me decided whether a career in commercial law is form. Indeed, I am much more interested in this career path than I was before and with this insight I now have a grasp of what area of commercial law that I would like to specialise in.
Everything Else
While I was not paid, the expenses for travel were indeed reimbursed. Moreover, since I lived outside of London and the commute would have taken more than one hours, I was provided with accommodation at a hotel which was within walking distance to the firm. The accommodation was indeed paid for.
There were a lot of opportunities for networking and meeting with other employees with the firm. There were several opportunities everyday to network with employees of the firm and was able to speak to a large variety of employee who all held different position in the firm which was great.
The networking opportunities were great. There was plenty of opportunities to network the trainees and associates and I was able to really gain a better understating of the firm, the culture and what a career in commercial law would entail because of these opportunities. Equally the social events were great too especially the networking over pizza and the dinner at a restaurant.
Yes, during the networking opportunities, I was able to get an insight into what the employees did outside of work and they were very clear that their interest outside of work were indeed valued by the firm. Equally, there is a lot of opportunities to undertake pro bono at this firm which is very much encouraged.
I would very much recommend this insight to a friend. This was more than an open day. This insight truly allowed to me to gain a better insight to the firm and learn more about it in greater depth. Equally, I was able to gain an insight into the culture which would have not been possible with an open day which only lasts one day.
