    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The speed networking session at lunch was very useful as it helped me to gain a very good insight into various departments across M&G. It gave me an opportunity to explore the culture at M&G and how it differs from its competitors. The networkers were very friendly and approachable which helped me to feel more at ease.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • It was only an insight day which had at least 90 attendees, therefore it is hard to personalise the experience to every indiviual. While this is was the case, M&G gave us various Q&A sessions throughout the day where we were able to voice our own personal opinions and find out what we wanted too.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Once again it was only a day so was very fast paced. With this in mind the staff facilitating the day were very friendly and made every effort to ensure that everyone was on track with what they were during the day. If guidance or support was needed, it was given.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Since I study a Finance, investment, and risk course I didn’t necessarily learn any material that I can transfer to my course. I was given a very good insight into employability skills and how to stand out from other candidates which for me is why I attended the insight day in the first place. For those who don’t study a finance based degree, there was certainly a lot of knowledge to be learned.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight day was extremely well structured. Every task had set time limits and was well kept. The events we undertook were very well structured as well, there wasn’t a moment where we were sat or stood about wondering what to do, there was always something to do or discuss.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I would say the general atmosphere was very positive. Everyone who I met that attended the event was excited to be there and learn. This energy was also present in the staff who undertook the day and networkers who took time out of their days to chat to us. There was a very upbeat positive atmosphere which made the day all the more enjoyable.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Since it was only an insight day there really isn’t much investing M&G could place in us, with that being said the coaching sessions were very good at guiding us on career paths and how to apply for roles and what it takes to be successful in those processes.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Extremely well is the short term answer. Every employee I spoke to gave me an honest opinion on working for the firm, all of which happened to be positive. I was told there was a good work life balance and that there was a very positive culture surrounding the firm. It was clear that this was genuinely the case after spending a day there.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It was only a day as I’ve stated but M&G did their best to give us an honest insight into culture at the company, it’s clear to me from the insight day that there is a very friendly team based culture that is employed at M&G. It’s a very positive firm.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Quite valuable, since I study quite a specialised degree I do already have some idea on where I want to end up in the future. Hearing from M&G graduates helped me to understand what their programs are like and how you can fit into M&G post grad. While I thought leaving Uni would mean I would enter a role and stay there, M&G has shown me that this isn’t the case.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • It was an imsight day where they provided lunch, the experiences i heard and the insight I was given was easily worth the cost of travel. At the end of the day these insight days aren’t about gaining financially, they’re about gaining an insight into life at that particular firm.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes there were plenty of opportunities. During our lunch period which was an hour and a half, we was invited to network with a whole host of employees who have worked across various departments in M&G. It wasn’t a pointless exercise either since most of them offered to connect on Linkedin and answer any questions I had.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Very good.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Not entirely, while they told us they undertake activities this wasnt explored in great detail.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, definitely.
