About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight day at Nomura and it has allowed me to have a far greater understanding of what Nomura exclusively does that makes it differ from other retail, commercial/coporate and investment banks.
From the get go from my day spent at Nomura I felt extremely welcome. All the current employees were very insightful and welcoming. I honestly cannot fault the day and believe I felf very valued. The atmosphere was the perfect balance between professional and enjoyable. I have previously been to Barclays and defiantly preferred the atmosphere at Nomura.
Whenever we needed help we could definitely ask for guidance or support from one of their employees. When questions were asked they were answered very well with the honest truth to prevent people from building up misconceptions of what banking is like, that’s it is hard work but is also rewarding as long as you are motivated and are truly interested.
I am currently in my final year of school and I’m looking to pursue a degree in economics therefore this day has definitely given me skills and information that is highly relevant and ultimately I want to pursue a career in the financial sector. This day has give me real life insight and experience of what to expect.
The Company
The date was extremely structured with a clear, concise And very relevant agenda of what the day was going to entail. The whole experience was seamless and I believe there was no margin for error as nothing could have gone wrong. Overall it was very professional and organised.
The general atmosphere was excellent all participants were extremely friendly and I have made some fantastic connections. The day was a good balance as when people started to get a bit tired there was a fun activity such as the tour around the bank or the group activity towards the end which got everyone speaking, communicating and really thinking for themselves.
Due to the fact that it was only and insight day this question does not really apply to my experience however from what I saw I believe Nomura would be able to invest a lot of development into your ability to help progress your personal training and capabilities for the real world.
The insight today definitely gave me a significant idea of what it would be like to work in such a large investment bank. It’s enables me to have a greater understanding of what it would like to have a full-time role within the company and can honestly say that everyone looks like they’re happy working at Nomura.
Due to the fact that Nomura Is a Japanese bank it definitely ly has a different culture. This was presented through the extreme representation and focus to detail. Additionally, everyone showed a sense of respect to one another which from what I’ve heard is lacking in other American banks. This difference is definitely an enticement to work in an hou this difference is definitely an enticement to work at Nomura.
This day has definitely proven to me that I want to work at a bank especially one like Nomura Where people know what they want and what they’re doing in an exemplary working environment. Many of the things I saw underpin what I initially thought however some of my opinions have changed and prove that I would rather work in a slightly smaller banks such as Nomura rather than one of the big banks in Canary Wharf.
Everything Else
I was extremely lucky to be able to meet with the current employee for an hour. This gave me the opportunity to ask some questions one-to-one and for greater understanding and explanation as to the different divisions and sectors there are in the banking world and the one best tailered to my interests.
As well as meeting with a current employee I was able to get a lot of names of other people working at Nomura. I have now followed up and asked to connect with these contacts on LinkedIn. This process has definitely given me networking/social opportunities with people within this section.
Nomura has excellent facilities with gyms, healthcare and other facilities and activities. After work hours every Thursday they host drinks on a rooftop terrace which I believe is ideal and fundamental to have a work play lifestyle which will help improve workers productivity, efficiency and welfare to make the work space healthier.
Overall I could not possibly fault the day and would highly recommend it to everyone I know. It is perfect to give you a greater understanding of what it is like to work in the financial/banking sector and that there are other things you can do such as operations, IT, HR, legal and finance roles as well as working in markets, corporate/investment banking and risk management.
