    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Overall very well organised, the activities would usually start at around 8.30am and end at 6pm so there was a lot to do every day of the programme. Coordinators were really nice and provided lots of support with everything, panel sessions were interesting although I expected a bit more sessions related to the technical aspects.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Very well treated all throughout the week. From the very start we all felt very welcome and valued as potential members of the company. Lots of networking really showed that we were treated as equal with the employees, we had lots of opportunities to ask questions beyond the extent of the programme contents as well.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • 5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although my programme was focused on technology we were given sessions on personality types, interview and CV workshops, insight on other business areas of Barclays so the skills are very transferable to the rest of the career and life. Overall I felt really satisfied with the skills that were chosen to develop throughout.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • 5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • 5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Quality workshops and panels with some experienced and passionate people. Felt genuine want to help with the career prospects even if you chose to not go with the company and pursue your career in some other fields. In general a lot of focus on personal development and training which will be useful.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I felt like the work shadowing was the least favourite part of the programme as some of the people we were assigned to did not seem to be passionate about their position. Although if you were inquisitive and asked lots of questions you would get a better question of how is life within the company.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • 5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Was given an introduction to the overall structure of the company and the available positions with a specific focus on the technology sector. The panels with current graduate and successful employees were very helpful to hear and understand as they often told stories about finding the right path in their life

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • A one-off grant is paid at the end of the programme, breakfast and lunch at the hotel are paid for, as well as accommodation and travel expenses which are also reimbursed if you are within a certain distance from the programme location. Overall a lot invested in the students participating in the programmme.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Plenty of opportunities to talk with employees after or during their sessions, several networking events also organised so you have a chance to really expand your network and contact employees after the programme should you wish so as they were really keen on sharing their emails and providing more insight.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Very well organised networking session that helped to break the ice to those that are not particularly keen or comfortable approaching new people, especially in a senior position. Lots of though given to making sure every student interacts and gets to know at least a couple of different employees from different fields.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Were told about the citizenship programme that all the employees get involved with during their time at Barclays. Some more insights on this received during the workshadowing sessions by enquiring the employees we were assigned to. I did wish there were more focus on this in the future but they gave us an overall picture of it.
