About You
It was very fast paced and provided me with a lot of information about working in the specific role that I was interested in in the firm. I had a good time and was able to make a lot of friends that I thought were very similar to me. They were very diversified in location and degree as well.
I felt very valued. I was allowed to get accommodation at the sight where the spring week was held. We were given all the basic amenities that made our event comfortable and convenient. Food was catered to us keeping in mind all our individual needs like Halal or gluten etc.
I was allowed to work shadow a developer and was able to get insight in a hands form fashion. We talked about the intracicies of the work and a summary of the nature of the work was presented to us on a personalise fashion keeping in mind that some of us didn't have technical experience in SQL.
I think I received a lot of primers and holes in my current knowledge about computing as I don't do it as a degree that I can pursue on my own time and is explore. The spring week taught me other human based skills as well and allowed me to cultivate them.
The Company
It was very well structured. A lot of highly dense info events were accompanied by breaks and excursions outside to allow the flow rate to be more amenable to people who didn't know anything about the firm and its technical side. In the span of four days with back to back events, we all generally felt exhausted and fulfilled.
It was felt quite open and interactive. Everybody was able to get to know and talk with almost everbody else and that was quite interesting to observe. The organisers were very good at ensuring everyone felt welcome and were able to satisfy their curious queries as much as they wanted.
A lot of time and money was invested into the technology spring class of 2018. People who didn't have accommodation stayed at Hilton in Glasgow and travel tickets to Edinburgh were provided to everyone. Individual feedback was promised to be delivered in the end of the event to every person.
Very much. It was fun and enjoyable but also very technical. We all had the chance to tailor what we got from spring week to meet our individual needs.
The company's culture was apparent in all their dealings. We were able to glean into the culture through networking events and observing how people in the firm talked to each other.
I'm very optimistic about the career aspects of what I was interested in doing.
Everything Else
Food and living with expenses for the stay were promised to be reimbursed to us.
Yes. They were quite frequent and well planned out.
Good. They had people from all levels and all sorts of roles during those events. What we did was talk about how they worked and what kind of career progression they went through to get to where they were. It was very informative and relatable at times to hear about their stories.
Yes, we were told about these at every possible opportunity and were also actively encouraged to come to Barclays as it was able to cater to our individual needs outside of work as well. There was one group who managed a start up entrepreneurial project handled by juniors in other firms.
Yes.
