About You
I wanted to see whether a career in technology would do two things: overlap in some way with my degree which is Actuarial Science, and appeal to me. I have enjoyed meeting new people and I have enjoyed finding out the answers to my questions that I had prepared. It was very enjoyable.
I felt very valued. I felt as if I had the same opportunities as my peers. Whenever we had a discussion panel, anyone could ask questions. When we went to Eagle labs in Edinburgh, I used the virtual reality set, with controllers as well - something I hadn't done before and extremely enjoyed.
I received so much, for which I am very grateful. I hope that, should I have any other questions in future, I can ask them and I can get the answers I am looking for. The positions of those we work shadowed were quite high, so having asked the right people, I am satisfied.
It hasn't as of yet as I am writing this on the last day of the Spring Week.
The Company
It could not have been more well structured. Every event was detailed in the app, which we were able to download before the Week. It showed us the timings, locations, and speakers of each event. SO in this way, I was always on track, never confused about what was going to happen next.
There was a good vibe, students all round. I enjoyed it.
I think this has been most visible in the group project and work shadowing. Putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation always gets you to explore what is beyond the barrier of fear. This was a good move from Barclays in terms of achieving personal training in us Spring Week attendees very well.
It was very good, since we had the opportunity to network with so many different people from the bank. This ranged from recent graduates, people from other jobs that moved to Barclays, experienced people, and coders to mention a few. Most went through their day to day life, which helped a lot.
It helped quite a bit, as everyone seemed to share the same idea that Barclays' culture was the best they had worked for. Those who came from other jobs with more intense working hours seemed to particularly share this idea, which was good to understand what life would be like at Barclays.
Very helpful.
Everything Else
I was paid at the end.
Yes. We had several panel discussions, which gave enough time for all our questions to be answered, despite there being many questions from us pupils. It was a good opportunity to see what they had to say, even though you didn't ask them a question. We got answers from a range of different people also.
Very good. I very much enjoyed the one on Wednesday in the ground floor restaurant, as everyone was there for an informal chat. Any questions that we didn't get to ask in the panels, we could do so in this session, and it was much more enjoyable with everyone crowding round some people.
No. This is actually quite important for me, since I am involved in quite a few extra curricular things at uni, so I am used to it and enjoy it, an see it as a necessity. So I hope there is a community that brings us together in the company to bring a range of positions together.
I would. In the process, I have learned something that is: Go for it. You're not going to get this opportunity again. And if you think you're not good enough, don't. I thought I was not good enough, because so many people got rejected, and I thought there was no point, but I was wrong.
