The Role
I did the Deloitte rotation for tax and audit, so the work was really varied and everyone there tried to give me the most interesting work they could, from interviewing clients to drafting advice.
Everybody I met was extremely welcoming and made such an effort to include me.
People took the time to explain the work and the background to what I was doing. They didn't mind if I asked lots of questions; they positively encouraged it.
Mostly I had a good amount of work. If not I was encouraged to seek out more work myself; this approach also led me to more interesting tasks.
Particularly in my audit placement I was given a fair bit of responsibility; not only was the work I completing often given to a 1st or 2nd year graduate, but I regularly interviewed clients on my own.
The general people skills and client interaction skills I developed whilst on my audit placement are invaluable. During tax I had to learn to completely structure my own time which is always important, and I had to learn to prioitise tasks.
The Company
For the audit rotation I was always out of the office on client site; you had to learn to adapt to the client's style of office which could be varied. In the Deloitte offices the atmosphere was professional but warm.
We had an initial away weekend with other regional interns and then training in our local office which was extremely well organised. I had no administrative problems with my audit allocations, and Deloitte were flexible enough to allow me to sort out an additional week of work experience that I wanted witihn audit.
As well a the initial training week, the employees spent a huge amount of time explaining the work and what I needed to do, as well as the context of the work. I was so impressed by the amount of time everyone spent with me.
Company Parties/Events
I have been offered a job that I have accepted
The Culture
We went on a number of socials, although it was difficult whilst the majority of people were out of the office on audits.
City centre prices - fairly standard
City centre (not including working on audit clients)
There were opportunities but I personally didn't have time to get involved.
