The Role
Students were an integral part of the team, completing work alongside professionals. This made the placement seem more worthwhile and gave a better feel for life in the pharmaceutical industry.
Staff were always friendly, ready to help and keen to share their knowledge and experiences.
Although my supervisor was incredibly busy I always felt I could ask questions and get help if I needed to.
I had a very demanding workload and it would probably have been better to have had more time dedicated to my project work, especially towards the end of my placement
I was solely responsible for running my own assays and generating decision making data of a high quality. I also had to present my findings in formal meetings to program leaders and managerial staff which was a great responsibility
I feel the skills I have developed are already helping me with my final year dissertation, general theory, time management and people skills, all of which have greatly improved my CV
The Company
Serious work was broken up with team coffee and cakes at breaktimes to celebrate birthdays, achievements and students last days! We also had section lunches at local pubs, christmas meals and parties and teambuilding 'orange days'. The atmosphere was fun, friendly and open at all times which made for a really pleasant work environment.
Students were well catered for and appreciated.
Students attended many mandatory training sessions and were strongly encouraged to attend optional modules in many different skills.

The Culture
with so many students in Stevenage there was always something going on dispite the town's lacking atmosphere! I lived with 3 other girls within walking distance from our local pub and the train station to pop to London for the day or a few drinks after work. Most other students lived close by - everyone was very friendly and we all had a great time!
Prices were higher being close to London compared to university in Leeds! On the other hand we were all earning enough to afford a good night out once in a while and general living costs were easily covered.
Stevenage has one nightclub that leaves a lot to be desired! House parties and local pubs were a much more favoured option. London was great on pay day!
There were various sports teams in the area and organised work events for us all
