About You
The two day event was packed with lots of informative talks as well as engaging interactive activities. It was really fascinating learning how technology is utilised in all the service lines and I found it interesting hearing the experiences of current EY employees. There were plenty of opportunities for networking which is undoubtedly useful for later in life.
Despite the event only being short, every person there had the opportunity to voice their ideas and opinions and to ask questions, and I feel this ability to actively participate shows that EY values each individual and what they can bring to not only the event, but perhaps to the firm in the future.
There were a number of current employees to help guide us through activities and answer any questions. For instance, during the hackathon, where we were presented with a problem statement in groups and had to construct an idea involving technology to resolve this, there was at least one associate or intern within the group to guide us along the task.
I am currently studying Accouting & Finance so have not had an in depth introduction to the use of complex technology in businesses, but after this digital disruption event I have a wealth of knowledge around this topic which will no doubt help me in my studies and when I enter the working world.
The Company
The insight days were brilliantly constructed with plenty of breaks to ensure we were fully engaged during talks and activities. Everything seemed very well thought out and planned which meant the insight ran very smoothly.
Everyone at the event was very keen to get involved and suggest their ideas and ask questions. It was really enjoyable to be in a room with so many talented and intelligent people with differing minds; it encouraged me to consider how to see things and tackle problems from different perspectives.
This insight has significantly developed our knowledge of EY as well as the technologies they utilise within their firms, which is transferable knowledge that would be beneficial in any company. Since it was only an insight the extent of personal training was inherently limited but the event most definitely developed our knowledge of both the company and the use of technology in disruption.
There was a panel discussion and a number of opportunities to network with EY employees of varying levels, so the insight significantly increased my understanding of what it would be like to have a full time role within the company and the benefits, challenges and opportunities such a role may entail.
The “people culture” of EY was heavily emphasised, alongside the company’s clear ambition to improve the working world. This was also clear through the demeanour and friendliness of the employees. I would therefore say the insight was very helpful in terms of developing our understanding of the computer any culture and the nature of the people who work within the firm.
I feel I know a lot more about each of the service lines within EY and what the each job entails, so the insight was really useful in helping me to decide my potential future career path. I have more of an appreciation for the sub-service lines as well which is useful for determining where I would see myself in the future.
Everything Else
Both my travel costs and accommodation costs were reimbursed for this insight event. I think this is really great as it encourages involvement from people with less wealthier backgrounds, therefore ensuring no people are overlooked and no talent goes amiss. The accommodation was of brilliant quality and made the two days even more enjoyable.
There were a number of employees available to chat to during both days. During breaks they were all around to talk to and a large number of them also attended the social event in the event which provided a more relaxed environment for chatting to them and learning about their experiences at EY and any advice they had.
There was a social held at Junkyard Golf in London in the evening of the first day, which was a very fun and relaxed location for casual networking. In addition to this the breaks during the day time were a perfect opportunity for networking with other participants/candidates as well as employees.
This was not particularly covered though with only two days for the insight it is understandable that some topics may not be covered. It was briefly mentioned during panel discussions that lots of social events are held within the company outside of working hours, thus suggesting that there is an abundance of external activities available to employees.
Absolutely, there are a number of things you get out of the insight event, and what you take away from it may be different for every person. If you are unsure of what career path you would like to take or would like to learn more about technology within business or EY, then I would strongly reccommend you apply for this insight event.
