About You
I found the insight very useful with lots of information that I can use to see where I might fit in at EY. The various tasks and talks helped me to understand how EY operates and the main areas in which the company focuses its abilities. The networking opportunities were very helpful in getting answers to questions both broadly and specifically about a number of different areas.
I felt that during the insight the staff both running and aiding with the programme were genuinely interested in our questions and experiences giving me a comfortable environment in which to ask the questions that I had. The first day was relatively PowerPoint heavy, however the breaks and networking opportunity made me feel integrated in the programme.
I felt at the start the insight was very information heavy, with a lot of different service lines delivering presentation after presentation. However on the second day, once we started with some more interesting activities, we were led well with EY staff working along side us allowing us to have the opportunity for support and guidance.
As I am currently completing a Mechanical Engineering degree the skills that I developed during this Spring insight will not directly help with my studies at university. Despite this I feel that these skills that I have developed will help me in everyday life and in further applications and work within the technology sector.
The Company
Each session was of good length, with each session neither feeling too short or too long. The balance of time throughout the days felt correct with no awkward periods of waiting around or times when I felt I really needed a break. Throughout the insight I felt that the programme had been well thought through with a good mix of different opportunities to learn and ask questions throughout.
As the insight was only two days, it took a good chunk of the programme to feel comfortable and to get to know a few people at the event. Through the social and the activities I felt more and more comfortable in the environment, allowing me to take more from the second day once I had settled in.
The support in terms of how to succeed in assessment centres and interviews was especially useful, with specific help with how to succeed within the EY process being very useful. They also allowed me to know the exact direction that I need to go in in order to succeed in the specific areas that I am interested in.
The networking opportunities and the sharing of experience from employees all the way from interns to partners have me a glimpse into the experience that employees have at EY. The ablilty to ask questions at a panel Q&A with a varied employee base especially allowed me to see the similarities and differences between the different streams of the business.
Through the question and answer sessions and networking, there were specifics mentioned about the core culture as well as the culture of the technology aspect of the business. The EYX showcase also gave me a good opportunity to see what else EY does on the technology side and thus how it’s culture.
The insight gave me a great idea as to what is expected and done especially as this is something relatively new to me and different from my degree. This I felt this really helped me from an engineering background to see how these skills can be transferred and what aspect of my degree are most helpful for EY.
Everything Else
Travel was paid for on both days. As I live in London, 45 minutes from the venue I traveled from home each day, however those who lived far away were given accommodation over the course of the insight.
There was a social on the evening of the first day which was good in meeting a few employees from different areas of the business. However outside this there were a few opportunities to ask questions outside of the formal setting, but the number of employees compared to that of those on the course was relatively small each time.
The main social was a very good way to network over the insight programme, with many different business sectors represented with friendly staff very happy to answer any of my question or just to give me an insight of what it is like to work at EY. The venue was great however slightly too loud to have an easy conversation.
The range of activities available for employees was mentioned however the detail about these was few and far between. The insight had much more of a focus on the culture and work of the business. I would have liked to see more on the out of work activities, possibly even a short slot designated to it.
I found it very informative and useful as someone with little experience of this sector before. The talks were clear and easy to understand with the many specialised terms explained well. Thus it allowed me to understand a lot more about the business than if I was just researching online.
