About You
The insight was very useful, it provided an excellent insight into the firm. You learn much more about the different opportunities in the various service lines. However, the first day is very power point heavy and could do with more interaction. The second day is much better, with the hackathon enabling collaboration in a group.
EY spend a lot of money on the event and make you feel like you have a definite future in the firm. Everyone is incredibly friendly and the social is a great way to get to know people and importantly network with current EY staff. EY are also very generous about travel and accommodation.
The first day doesn’t require much guidance as it is mostly just PowerPoints, however there are plenty of EY employees to speak to during lunch/breaks. The second day involves more interaction with current employees, with an employee leading the discussion on every table. They are very helpful and keen to listen.
If considering a career in the industry it is absolutely invaluable to attend such an event. You receive so much information from people currently working in the specific sector that you want to apply to. For my current degree the information I received is not that relevant, but I am very glad I attended nonetheless.
The Company
The insight was very well structured with insights into every service area. There are also regular breaks and lunches as the content of some of the presentations is a bit heavy. The team have clearly run the event on numerous occasions before and the whole event passed without a hitch.
The general atmosphere was mostly that of intrigue. The people on the insight day are all highly motivated and interested in the firm as well as the industry as a whole. Everyone is very friendly and keen to learn more about others as they may well end up being colleagues in the not too distant future.
The firm invested a lot for so many people to be able to attend the event. However the personal development was not brilliant, as it is mostly just an information based insight; learning more about the company and how it operates in general. However, the main aim is to encourage people to apply for future programmes, which it is definitely successful in doing.
The insight was incredibly useful in understanding the business of the firm and what it would be like to be a part of it. There are opportunities to speak to loads of current and recent gravitated about their personal experiences, which is helpful in helping you to make decisions on your future.
The insight is very helpful in learning about the company culture as you meet so many current employees. The panel discussion also enabled the whole room to hear more about what current employees think of the company, which helps form an idea in your head about th culture of the firm as a whole.
The first day explains in detail the huge variety of possible career paths that are available within a firm like EY. It is perhaps most helpful to speak to current and recent graduates about their experiences. They have all been in the same position and have plenty of advice on what to do.
Everything Else
EY were very generous in paying up to £150 for travel expenses. The accommodation for the event was also first class. It was very near to the insight day location and was of a very high quality. There is no need for pay as it is mostly information to benefit you in the future.
There was plenty of opportunity to network with a wide variety of current employees during the insight program. This ranged from current and recently graduated employees who have been in the same situation as people on the program, to partners in the firm. The range of employees is from every service area too.
The networking event consisted of a visit to junkyard golf. It was an incredibly fun experience with numerous employees joining in too. The golf was good and there were two free drinks for everyone. Although not being entirely traditional all seemed to enjoy the event, despite the dark conditions not being traditionally thought of as conducive to easy networking.
There was some mention of various clubs and social activities that employees can get involved in outside of work hours. There was also mention of the flexibility employees enjoy with regard to working hours. EY allow employees to leave early for activities outside of work as long as they make the time up at a later date.
If you are considering a career in any aspect of the financial industry I would strongly recommmend attending this event. You are hearing from professionals about the industry, and it is difficult to think of a place other than this where you would have access to such a volume of information.
