About You
Digital Disruption was certainly the right name for the programme. Having learnt about digital innovation across Assurance and Advisory, I can now decide which service and sub-service group I would like to join. Business and Technology has set EY apart from the competition and it was amazing to have the hands-on experience during the hackathon with EY professionals.
You can see how EY treats it’s employees through such programs as this. Taking the time to explain everything, making sure that everyone is on the same page, we’ve been introduced to EY. At the end of the first day, we had a social, which was a great way to meet other people at EY and other universities.
We have been placed in teams each with EY mentor, who helped us navigate through all the opportunities EY offers, during the first day when hearing about different service lines. On the second day, we had two EY IPs working with us on a social case. By learning from their experiences, we were able to design our own solutions.
This programme has actually helped me choose my optional modules in the third year of my degree. I will now be studying High Performance Comptuing as part of the course to develop my skills in Artifical Intelligence. Hopefully, I will bring my new skills back to EY.
The Company
Overall, the programme was structured well with the first day being an introduction to tech-heavy service lines and having a hackathon on the second day, applying what we’ve learnt. The Q&A with the CIO, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was the prefect way of welcoming us and the panel session at the end of the second day let us reflect on the company and it’s work.
The atmosphere was very energising. It was mostly evident from the interaction within our team during the hackathon. When brainstorming, collaborating and refining our ideas, we’ve shown our passion towards solving social inequalities using technology. Being inspired by the problem and not by the solution.
The whole event can be considered as the investment into our development and training, regardless which firm we might end up at. However, there was a strong emphasis on the support and development within the firm during and after the graduate scheme.
Unfornutely, the event lacked work shadowing, however it wasn’t within the scope of the programme and was easily compensated by actually talking to EY representatives about the work they do on a day-to-day basis.
Networking opportunities throughout the programme was more than enough to understand the flexibility the firm offers. In addition to that, the panel Q&A at the end was very insightful with regards to personal development at EY.
It was a definitive experience. Being passionate about client based work, the insight helped me reassure myself on my career path.
Everything Else
I didn’t not require accommodation and/or having travel expenses reimbursed as I live close to the location of the event.
Excellent networking opportunities have been provided to us. We had the chance to talk to people from IT Risk Assurance, People Advisory, UK&I Advsiory, FSO Advisory, Fraud Investigation & Detection Services, Internal Innvoation, EYX, Apprentices and many other people from EY. Great variety of people to get the feel of personal interaction within the firm.
However, there could have been more time between the introductory sessions to get to know EY people on a mor personal level.
We’ve heard about the internal societies and corporate social responsibility initiatives at the firm through networking, although there wasn’t any specific talks about them.
Overall, the Discover EY - Digital Disruption programme totally matched and even exceeded my expectations. Absolutely amazing focus on technology and how EY can bring its commercial expertise to its largest clients. More importantly, I’ve learnt so much more about the company’s vision 2020+ and their journey of becoming a $50bn company. It’s evident that EY is disrupting all industry sectors with such programs as EYX and internal innovation programs to ensure that the firm disrupts itself before anyone else does. In short, anyone interested in innovation and technology within professional services should go through the programme.
