About You
It helped me understand which area of EY I wanted to apply for, and also gave me an overview for the technologies EY uses and develops to disrupt markets (e.g. Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, machine learning). The work done by the EYX division was particularly interesting, however, many of the speakers repeated information and were not coherent with each other's presentations.
Employees of all tiers of the EY hierarchy were happy to network and offered me individual advice on my future applications. There were plenty of opportunities on both days to meet people from all departments and I was able to develop a reasonable list of contacts over the course of the event.
An employee of EY was stationed at each table with a ration of around 1:7 employees to students. However, some were more willing to engage with participants than others, and some did not appear to fully understand the events running. The event runners were very approachable and helpful if needed.
I do not feel that I gained any particular skills which would be directly applicable to my future careers, however, this may have simply been due to the short length of the event. The final presentation on the recruitment process was very helpful for describing what EY is looking for from its internship applicants.
The Company
Many of the presentations seemed very disjointed and repeated each other - it seemed that there was no prior discussion between speakers about who would discuss what. This led to a lot of repetition. The showcase and idea hackathon organised by EYX were well organised and were my personal highlights of the programme.
The atmosphere was not overly formal, particularly at the networking event on the first evening. This meant that I could have very interesting and insightful discussions with EY employees from all areas of the firm. However, the repetition during HR presentations made the atmosphere quite dull on the first day.
I did not feel that I gained any specific training or investment over the course of the program, however, the recruitment officers running the event were very happy to give advice for future applications to the business. They encouraged applicants to demonstrate their practical strengths at their internship assessment centres.
Presentations were given from all major branches of the firm, explaining their everyday work with real life case studies and detailed explanations. A diverse range of employees from different areas of the business also attended, and were usually very happy to talk about their line of work and application process.
The company culture was a main focal point of the event, with many employees citing that they joined EY because of "the people". The atmosphere and general themes of the event gave me a good understanding of EY's operations and corporate culture. Diversity was very much a common theme in many presentations.
It has made me far more likely to apply for an EY internship and graduate program. I also feel much more confident with my decision on which area of the firm I want to apply for. I feel more comfortable with EY's general operations, investment in technology and corporate culture.
Everything Else
Accommodation was provided for applicants who needed to travel 90 minutes or more to the event venue. Travel expenses were also covered.
There was a well attended social networking event during the event, where I was able to make a number of meaningful connections with other participants and employees.
As stated previously, There was a well attended social networking event during the event, where I was able to make a number of meaningful connections with other participants and employees.
No, but an emphasis was placed on the importance of individual contributions in all service divisions of EY.
Yes. It prepares you well for future work with EY and provides a fast tracking opportunity for Summer Internship programmes. I would recommend solely on the basis that it gives you a comprehensive view of the four main streams of graduate applications, which a website or careers event simply doesn't give.
