About You
It was fantastic. It gave a great insight into the culture of the firm and its working environment, which I found highly friendly. The insight scheme was valuable in providing confirmation of what the graduate website and brochures stated regarding the firm. I'd highly recommend it to anyone considering a career in law.
I felt highly valuable. I was trusted to undertake work for both trainees and associates, providing support with real cases for real clients. This meant that I felt valuable because I was actively contributing to the team, despite the short duration of the scheme. It provides a real opportunity to put knowledge into practice.
There was guidance and support available across the firm. Everyone at all levels of seniority was happy to answer all questions and provide support, from trainees to partners to the Graduate Recruitment and IT Support teams. This really helped to back up the firm's supportive culture which had been a key factor in making my application.
I completed a number of tasks while at Simmons & Simmons including summaries of legal cases and research on on-going and changing aspects of the law. This is really helpful for my academic background which includes lots of reading, research tasks and written work including regular essays. This was among the most valuable things I got out of the scheme.
The Company
It was very well structured. There were a mix of talks, time spent in the allocated department, tours of the office, networking lunches, social evening events including drinks and a dinner away from the firm, and case studies also. The structure had been well thought-out by the Graduate Recruitment team and meant it was easily to quickly become comfortable with the tasks ahead.
It was very positive. Relaxed events with fellow interns allowed us to quickly become acquainted with one another, and the atmosphere throughout the firm was very positive. Everyone was very keen to talk about legal careers in general, their personal careers to date, and to answer specific legal-related questions - all of which I really appreciated.
There was not a significant level of general legal training. This was because the scheme took place over 2 days, and the firm chose to allow us to train and develop in our departments rather than holding big training talks which might be expected in other firms or industries. I prefer to learn this way, so it worked really well for me..
It was short, and I was in one department for the duration of the scheme - so I might not be best-placed to answer compared to those who have spent longer at the firm, but from my time there I felt I learnt a lot and I am now keen to apply for a graduate role.
The only way to really get a feel for the culture and 'vibe' of a company or law firm is to spend time in its offices and to meet a range of people from across the organisation. This latter point was what made this scheme so valuable; the sheer number of people I was able to connect with.
Really valuable. I had suspected that I wanted to work in law but this allowed me to put my ideas and preconceptions about the role into practice and to gain valuable relevant experience. It has cemented law in my mind as an ideal future career, and I look forward to future applications as a result.

Yes, there were lots and these were really valuable.
Very relaxed and informal, which I enjoyed.
Yes - but this was fairly limited.
