    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I learnt a great deal and was involved directly with the work my team was doing.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I had positive feedback from my colleagues and got on really well with them.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Team members I was working with offered very instructive support and within a matter of days I was up to speed with the basics. One colleague sat down and took me through the basics of accountancy qualification standards which was very helpful and interesting.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Wherever possible, when a project was on hold I tried to ask if anyone needed any help with anything. At times there was a lull - this gave me time to get on with some background research on the projects we were working on.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I came with my time to important meetings with clients and where appropriate I was given the opportunity to weigh in with my opinions. I felt like a proactive part of the team.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The general skills I learnt - people skills, commercial awareness and time management - are invaluable and are something that I can build on even more in the graduate role. They have helped me take my final year at university to the next level.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was no sense of boredom in the office - there was a lot of energy and, although that energy had to be focussed on working at the project at hand, colleagues were always lighthearted.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was meticulously organised and there was never a point at which I didn't know what was happening next in terms of the overall structure of the placement, which helped a lot with personal organisation.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • E&Y was keen to build me up into a proactive team member during the placement.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been made a graduate offer.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was great, and the interns regularly met up of our own accord, as well as seeing each other at E&Y-organised events throughout the placement.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is relatively inexpensive, but I did not live there for the duration of the placement, I commuted from London.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was good with several bars and clubs as 'regulars' for the employees.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As interns we were regularly emailed about activities going on outside of work, and kept in the loop just as much as full-time employees there.

    4/5
