About You
I wholeheartedly enjoyed the insight programme. It provided the perfect opportunity to meet and interact with employees of BAML and also fellow students. The week was very engaging and interactive which was very beneficial. The line of business days were particularly enjoyable and insightful. I definitely benefited from the insight.
I found that all those within Bank of America Merrill Lynch are very open and willing to answer any questions you may have. This made the experience very positive and showed that employees were interested in engaging with us students.
The Junior Talent Team were always within easy contact should anyone have an issue or need support. Knowing who to contact if you had a problem really created support within the programme.
I have gained many skills from the week that I will take with me in my studies and also life beyond my degree. The insight week allowed me to develop my time work and presentation skills in a very engaging and challenging environment. I gained confidence in these areas which will greatly aid me in the future. Also, the information we received was of very high quality and gave a really thorough understanding of what each division does within the bank.
The Company
The insight was extremely well structured. There was never a dull moment and I was constantly engaged. I enjoyed the first day as it allowed us to get to know other students and build relationships in an enjoyable atmosphere. I particularly liked the structure the line of business days took. It followed an approachable pattern whereby we were given a description of the division the morning to develop our understanding. This was then applied in an interactive case study which really brought the work to life and then work shadowing. This structure facilitated a natural progression and maximised my ability to learn and engage.
The atmosphere was very energetic and positive. Other spring interns and BAML employees were all very friendly and willing to engage and talk with you. This allowed a very open and interactive atmosphere to foster.
The week was very focused on personal development and skills sessions. This took many forms such as teamwork sessions, presentations, case study challenges and communication. I definitely found a great emphasis on development throughout the week.
The insight gave a good overview of the tasks within each division in a thorough manner. It is always difficult to understand what a full time role involves without personal experience however. Perhaps more work shadowing or more graduate interaction could improve this.
The insight gave taste of the company culture, I could see that BAML placed an emphasis on its people and developing them.
I enjoyed the specific line of business days and found these the most helpful in deciding what area interests me. It would have be great to get a board overview of the other areas on the first day as it is difficult to meet with someone in every division.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed for my travel expenses and provided accommodation for the duration of the week.
Yes there was ample opportunities to meet employees at many networking events. The dinner was a highlight of the networking experience.
The networking events were good as they had many different divisions within the bank available to students. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to talk to MDs and VPs. It could be an idea to include more graduates or incoming summer interns at these events.
I heard about some of the committees and sports teams on the first day but less as the week progressed. It would have been interesting to learn more about the activities BAML offers.
Yes I would as it was an incredible learning opportunity and way to develop key skills. I met many interesting people whom I would not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. There is nothing to lose from taking part in the insight as you are guaranteed to gain something out of the week.
