The Role
The internship was split between 3 departments Audit, Corporate Tax and Global Employer Services. Each day i was given something new to do.
Colleagues were happy to provide feedback and explain how the work i was doing benefited the client and Deloitte.
Support was readily available to me if i needed it and everyone in the office is willing to give up a few minutes of their time and help you.
It really was hit and miss on a few day but in general i always had something to do between 9-5. On those rare occasions i found myself without work i either ask or sent an email around the office. If i had no work i would research Deloitte in preparation for my final interview.
A certain degree of responsibility is given to each intern on the program if you want more responsibility it must be earned, if you perform a task exceeding well then you can expect to be given more responsibility next time.
Since i study political science the technical skills really won't assist me in my degree, however, we had to give 2 presentation to the partners in the office, being able to work on presentations skills is always helpful.
The Company
Despite people having deadlines to meet they were always happy and friendly. The office i worked in had a casual Fridays policy which helps the atmosphere in the office. My time in the tax department was filled with numerous cakes and other chocolate delights as someone would always being treats into share, nothing cures the Monday blues more than a big ole piece of chocolate cake.
During the application process in general it was all right, however, you'll find that you have to submit the same documents numerous times which can get a bit tedious. During the internship there was a master plan but because some jobs did finish early in the audit department i found myself doing instead odd jobs for people in the office for 1 day instead of being out on clients site.
I was invited to a tax training workshop while i was interning in the corporate tax department, despite not understanding the majority of topics i appreciate Deloitte decision to invite me, as i did learn something new and gave me an insight on what i could be doing if i joined the firm as a graduate.

Deloitte is constantly rated 1 of the best firms to work for so i assume the future prospects are good, as i have accepted a graduate role with them. During the last couple of weeks of the internship you are offered the chance to select which department and which office you would like a partner interview in.
The Culture
Your office will organise 2 socials for during your internship so this is a great way to bond and socialise with the other people on the placement. In addition at the office i was working in they had their summer ball which all of the interns were invited to, this consisted of a 3 course meal at a very posh hotel with a free bar.
Since the Crawley/ London Gatwick office is about 300 miles away from my home city i rented a room in a house for the duration of the internship. Crawley isn't that expensive but then again it really isn't the nice place to live.
Brighton is only about 30mins on the train and London 40mins so they satisfied my nightlife needs.
Didn't really hear about any social clubs in the office so don't know.
