The Role
It was hard work, probably the hardest ive ever worked and very long hours but the people i met, things i learned and general experience made trhe bad things disappear
I got on well with all my collegues we were like family in the end and have friends for life
They were never bothered about us because we were just interns and we thought that was what happened on placement....we were in formed by an outsider that we were treated very badly
It varied seasonally. When it was busy though we were completly slammed and the H2B workers (temporary workers) the jamaicans didn't come back unitl april and so we had to start the busy season alone with no thanks or praise for doing 2 peoples jobs
I was a server in hotel...enough said but eventually i did the bottling up and trained people throughout the placement
I feel as a life experience i have learned alot and value my placement immensly but as far as acemdemic learning goes not alot.
The Company
We always had fun but that was because of the other workers and i. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]
They didn't really have a scheme even though they had a leaflet about it...we were just cheap intelligent labour that couldn't leave.
They couldn't care less if I didn't learn a thing. A hotel consultant was the only one who listened and he wasn't even part of the hotel
Subsidised Canteen
They offered me a job but i don't know how serious it was but to be honest i wouldnt go back there....it was good for a year but not for a permenant fixture
The Culture
We were always out enjoying ourselves when we got a spare minute
We were paid quite alot and we had student loans which doubled in value - exchange rate
we made the most of the one club on the island and few bars - you were always bumping into people you knew - literally
not through the company, we did it all ourselves
