The Role
Overall an excellent experience, which has given me a good standing for the world of work - and the offer of employment after the seven weeks takes a huge weight off one's mind in the final year of university!
Interns are assigned to small teams who are working on tight deadlines - they are therefore valued as members of these teams, and are expected to contribute accordingly.
The people who supervise you depend on your clients. Sometimes it can be a recent graduate, sometimes a senior manager (though never a partner who as an intern you will hardly come across.)
As noted above you are expected to contribute to a small team.
Sometimes the responsibility could be too much. Especially if you are from a non-financial background it may take a while to get your head around what is being asked of you. While others will help where they can, they also have numerous things to get done for their line manager.
If you want to go into finance or business in general this is a useful placement - though it might not live up to expectations if you are looking for a more dynamic, cutting edge, or less-numerate internship.
The Company
Rarely spent much time in Deloitte office - most time is on client site - but everywhere I went had a fun and friendly atmosphere.
Structured very well. Deloitte know what they are doing here, and you will get a wide range of experiences sorted for you. If you want to see something in particular they will go out of their way to help arrange it.
Whole first week was training and introduction. We received good pay, supplies and the use of a personal, new laptop.
Deloitte is well-known as being a world-class place to start a career in the financial sector. My internship confirmed this opinion.
The Culture
Excellent relations between the trainees and fully qualified managers.
Lived at home and travel outside the office was covered so I managed to keep most of my salary - not that it was anything to write home about.
Didn't really experience it - but Manchester is a big party city.
Not really that much - some people went along to office nights out on a Friday.
