About You
I really enjoyed it as it was a unique opportunity to get to talk with representatives from all perspectives. It also helped me confirm my professional orientation.
We were a lot of students so undoubtedly I can't say I felt "like family" but I quickly matched with other students which was really nice. However, the HR team was really really kind and created a good spirit all the week long.
The HR team was always here to answer our questions. They did a great job and supported us a lot for the assessment day.
I have to admit that I learned a lot, not really on a technical specs as we were with people that'd never heard of EBITDA or valuation, but rather on a human level. This was actually what I was expecting: developing my soft skills through discussions and networking events, rather than hard skills that I can get at school.
The Company
Quite well structured. The only thing was when we had to move from one building to another (hopefully they are closed to each other) but maybe we could have used the time spent in the transportation differently. We also had little visibility on the last day (at what time do we finish the interviews for instance)
Amazing! Students were really nice to each other, I created real friendships in such a short time. That's part of the exciting part of doing an insight week at BofAML: intense but focused on teamwork and discussions. There was no competition or pressure, that was great!
The bank did it a lot to provide us with some trainings on "how to use our strengths/defaults" and other soft skills. That was really important I think.
Discussing with representatives, asking them all the questions we have in mind really helped me understand the job. I came up with different ideas of what it is like working in banks and how employees are linked to each other.
As BofAML has such a strong culture based on trust and teamwork, it was really easy to grasp the essence of the company culture from day 1. We were first given the "theoretical" presentation of the values etc. and they we got to experience it through the networking events and work shadowing.
It definitely confirmed my desire to join Investment banking at BofAML. Employees did agree on the tough part of the job but they all insisted on the specificity of working for BofAML making it a unique experience: strong culture, international deals, diversity etc.
Everything Else
We had a maximum of 300£ which was ok if you take your train/plane tickets quite early.
There was not a single day we didn't have exposure to representatives from all level in the bank (from summer interns to MD). It was incredible to have this chance to meet so many different people!
Great opportunities, great location. I would maybe suggest to have more representatives during the welcoming day or the "career fair". Indeed, sometimes we ended up being 10 students around one employee which made the discussion a bit less easy to understand.
I really enjoyed Mini Maxwell speech as she really showed us that BofAML was not only hard work, it was also a place where we could create societies, sport teams, learn a new language etc.
Spending time applying for a spring week definitely worths it. It is a pity that in France we don't talk that much about it and that banks do not organise one in Paris. It benefits so much to the students and also, I hope, to the bank.
