About You
I truly did enjoy the experience, as not only did I get to see what it would be like to work in the banking environment, I also got to ask any questions I had. Personally, I enjoyed all the networking events most, as I was able to meet professionals and get amazing advice about how to tackle entering the banking environment.
I believe we had a huge amount of guidance and support throughout the whole week. The HR team was always present and ready to answer any questions we had and help in any way they could. Also, anyone you asked a question to throughout the week always gave the best response and advice they could.
The Company
I think it was excellently structured as there was a range of events that allowed you to get not only a deeper technological knowledge but also a more well rounded insight into the whole environment. Additionally, we always knew what we were doing in advance and so we had the opportunity to think about it before and prepare a few questions, which I found very helpful.
There were multiple business panels and sessions where people would inform us about what they do and we could ask any questions we had. Additionally, during the networking events the professionals were very good at giving a view into their day to day activities and the skills needed to succeed. Therefore, the spring week really helped me to understand what it would be like to have a full time role.
The insight helped so much, as not only did we learn about our divisional preferences but we also learnt about what else the firm has to offer, which I believe represents its culture. Additionally, anyone you asked always said the reason they chose Bank of America Merrill Lynch was for the people, showing the caring nature of the firm.
I think the most useful event was the shadowing that was possible in global markets, as it allows you to get a real feel for what they do and what their daily tasks consist of. From this you can then see whether you would fit in and be able to do the same is you were to ever work there.
Everything Else
There were lots of networking opportunities, especially the dinner on Wednesday were having the people related to your divisional preferences actually sat at the table, meant you could any questions you had.
This was a point that a lot of the professionals I spoke to, both during business panels and networking events mentioned. For example I found out about the women's leadership council, which helps to bring all the female members of the firm together. Also the opportunity to learn a language was brought to my attention more then once.
Definitely! Before coming into this experience I wasn't sure what division I preferred or if I was even suited to finance as I do not have a finance degree. However, I learnt so much throughout the week and had so much fun, that now I am sure that banking is where I want my career to begin.
