About You
A really useful and interesting experience to see the way teams within the investment banking division operate and experience the culture within a bank like Citi first hand.
The HR team organising the spring week really cared about what we got up to in the week and were always happy to help in anyway to make the experience as useful as possible. The team I was shadowing always made an effort to involve me and were keen to help me during my week.
My team tried to introduce me to as many people as possible and answered questions a I had, but naturally they were very busy a lot of the time.
I learnt a lot of interpersonal skills and how to network, and also getting used to culture in an office workplace. I was also told about the role of the team within the investment bank and a lot of financial terms and concepts the team use in their work.
The Company
It was structured very well with clear plan and varied talks that were interspersed within the week.
Shadowing a team meant you got to experience how the team works which was a new atmosphere. All the sessions run by HR had a really good friendly atmosphere.
We were given an assessment centre workshop and a talk, and also a banking case study to go through from more senior members of the bank.
Being assigned a team with your selected division and working in their team for a week gave me a brilliant understanding on what being an analyst is like, which will help me assess my career choices and if this industry is right for me.
Being within a team for a week was a unique experience to spend long periods of time in the company to understand what the team dynamic and culture was like.
The days were mainly work shadowing within the team as well as a few sessions over lunch or at the beginning of the day with some more senior staff and HR.
Everything Else
As I didn't live in London they paid for my hotel and train costs as well as some food expenses when they weren't provided for us.
Two networking evenings were hosted for us with senior and junior staff, and during work shadowing there were many opportunities to have coffee or talk with the team.
Two networking evenings were hosted for us, as well as being able to talk to recruiters and other interns over lunch.
There wasn't much directly advertised about these but from speaking to team members they answered questions I had about life in and outside of Citi.
Perfect and unique opportunity to see how teams within investment banking works first hand by shadowing a team and a well organised week that really cared about our experience and our first impression of Citi that has made me very keen to take part in further internships and opportunities within the company.
