About You
It was a great opportunity! I really enjoyed my time at UBS, it was a 10/10 experience for me - each day we had several speakers and bespoke interactive workshops that allowed us to gain a unique insight into each of the banks businesses areas. It was a really exciting and engaging experience.
Throughout the programme, we were constantly given workshops that we could participate in as well as a case competition that we could work on with other interns as a team. The organisers of the event were always nice and friendly and encouraged us to ask as many questions as possible in order to get the most out of our programme.
Aside from the workshops, we also had mock interviews done which was especially helpful for future assessment centres. Feedback from these interviews allowed you to refine your interview technique and understand how to best approach an assessment centre in your chosen division. Throughout other sessions, we also had the chance to personally talk to people on the graduate programmes in various divisions which was especially helpful as it let us have an in-depth view of a career with UBS.
The workshops in combination with the case competition allowed us to further develop our interpersonal skills i.e. communication, which is helpful for both degree studies and beyond. Furthermore, the mock interviews allowed us to understand how to best approach an interview (i.e. guidance on STAR technique) which is especially helpful for future interviews.
The Company
The programme was structured really well, especially as each day we were able to get a glimpse into various divisions. This allowed us to understand how other divisions of UBS outside of our chosen preferred area work. Each day, we were also rotated so that we could seat with different people, which was especially helpful in making new life-long connections.
Really friendly. Everyone in the programme was always really helpful and approachable, which overall made for a really nice atmosphere to have during. Even during the case competition, other interns/participants were always willing to help with your upcoming case. Networking event at the very end was a really relaxed environment which made for a really nice end to the programme.
UBS made sure that we developed as many skills as possible during the programme - the workshops and competition allowed us to cultivate our interpersonal skills. The workshops also helped us pick up relevant skills for that respective division i.e. analytical ability, which is especially helpful for future careers. The mock interview at the end was also really helpful, especially as we could get feedback from the interviewer immediately on what went right or wrong.
The insight was really helpful to understand what a full-time role is like at UBS - throughout the programme, we could easily talk to people on the graduate programme who would let us have an in-depth view of UBS's culture and workplace. The networking event at the very end also allowed us to talk to senior managers who could give further guidance on what a full-time role is like at UBS.
The programme was really helpful on understanding the companies culture, for example through programs they operate for their employees such as 'Take two' (which lets employees take 2 hours out of their schedule per week to do something new, which overall improves work-life balance) or UBS Scholar. Our in-depth introduction to the company’s culture also allowed us to see how UBS differs from its competition.
Extremely valuable - having an in-depth view of how the company works as well as the division you want to go in is invaluable. Throughout the programme, we could talk to people who were in the divisions we wanted to go in who could clarify the questions we had as well as telling us what they do in their work, which overall cleared up fears that can often pop up when deciding career paths.
Everything Else
Train fare & hotel was paid for throughout the entire programme. It was really nice to have an extra hotel night as well before the programme even started, as it allowed you to settle in London and get ready beforehand which is especially helpful if you're commuting from a very long distance away.
We always had the oppurtunity to meet and networking throughout the program with UBS staff during workshops, such as employees on the graduate program for example. At the very end of the programme we also had the oppurtunity to network with several of the speakers as well as staff in various divisions.
We were given a tour of the UBS building, such as the gym and other facilities. We also had an overview of other programs UBS runs for its employees, such as 'Take two' which aims to improve work-life balance by allowing employees to take two hours out of their schedule to work on something new, or UBS Scholar.
Definitely! The most distinctive part of this program for me was how friendly and nice it was throughout - there was never any pressure or stress during.
