About You
The insight was really interesting and I learnt a lot about the industry. There was a good balance of talks and interactive sessions/projects. The speakers were generally all engaging and the topics were relevant and informative. I enjoyed the networking and work shadowing opportunities as these gave a genuine insight into working at Barclays.
I definitely felt valued during my time at Barclays. Spending the first three days in the Novotel was great. Each of the employees that I spoke to, from graduates to senior staff, took a genuine interest in my experience at Barclays and my aims for my career at the company.
There was a lot of support given to us during this insight. HR were fantastic with guiding us through the busy schedule for the week. The graduates were also great with giving advice for spring weeks/internships and were always willing to be contacted by us if we had further questions.
I feel like I developed a lot of crucial skills, from teamwork to communication, which will definitely benefit me in the future. The information I received will help me with my future career plans, as I am hoping to continue my journey through Barclays, so I’m sure that this programme will help me navigate any future experiences at the company.
The Company
The insight was very well structured. Each day was packed full of talks and activities with regular short breaks. The app was really helpful for getting an idea of the schedule before the week started. There was a good range of sessions each day, which made sure that we stayed engaged for the whole day.
The atmosphere was really good. The people were friendly and there was always general excitement and interest. Occasionally towards the end of the day the atmosphere was slightly less buzzing but that was expected. Throughout the day, HR were always cheerful and happy which definitely kept us going even when we were tired.
Barclays invested in us fully- we had a session with an external company to develop our team work skills.
The insight helped a lot when it comes to understanding what a full time role would be like. We got to speak to a lot of graduates which was really interesting to see what our role could look like in the near future. Speaking to senior staff was also really helpful to see what our career could be like in the long term.
I feel like I have a good grip on Barclays’ working culture. We were told a lot by speakers about how flexible the working life is here and how important it is to have a work-life balance. Beyond this, I could gather a lot about the working culture from how friendly every employee was
This programme was extremely valuable for deciding on my future career path. This programme has definitely made me want to pursue a career in technology at Barclays further. The speakers and networking sessions were really valuable for helping me make this decision.
Everything Else
We were paid £250 for the week
There were a range of networking opportunities, both formal and informal. We had a speed networking session with senior employees and a more informal networking evening with recent graduates. It was really useful for hearing about life at the company.
The event opportunities were great- there was food and drink provided.
One graduate I spoke to was very involved in extra activities and it was really interesting speaking to her. Otherwise there was not a clear focus on activities outside of work.
I would definitely recommend this programme to a friend.
