About You
Fantastic range of talks by some very senior people, and thoroughly looked after.
A real emphasis on nurturing young talent, and every other person leading a team tried to encourage us to join their team. Every single person I spoke to wanted to take an interest in my career, thoughts and aspirations.
Very in depth guidance into a career with the firm. I particularly liked the fantastic sessions on conflict and communication - fun and incredibly applicable. There was only partial support for us personally, say CV reviews and a proper sit down about what we wanted long term from Barclays.
Technology changes fast, and this week has left us all choosing our future university modules to align to industry. I'm a technical person, but it's really worth making the point of how non-technical people have been shown the vast array of opportunities available to them.
The Company
There was a clear and logical plan, which was massively helped by an app we could communicate with and view the agenda. Dispite the app occasionally crashing, it was an invaluable tool to set the tone before the spring week and look at the agenda ahead.
I must be honest I was a bit apprehensive of what type of people I'd be stuck with for the week. I couldn't have been more wrong. I have never been in an environment where I've resonated with so many like-minded people - and I genuinely anticipate that I'll remain in contact with some friends for a long time.
A reasonable amount of time in leadership and communication workshops that everyone really seemed to enjoy. It's worth mentioning how well the firm invested outside of personal development - eating in a very nice restaurant 37 floors above Canary Wharf!
I leave the program with a complete understanding of the vast range of future opportunities.
Depending of the department, but 90% of people were incredibly laid back, and absolutely everyone was friendly, approachable and managers seem to really care about developing their staff.
In fact it made my life much harder: what do I choose...
Everything Else
We were give a very comfortable fixed reimbursement amount.
My count of LinkedIn connections has doubled in size this week.
If anything the bigger networking sessions could've benefitted from more employees:students. Everyone was very easy to talk to and there was a great range of departments represented.
Within finance and technology, there are no shortage of opportunities. However, not a great deal beyond that.
Those considering technology with a bit of commercial mbition should definitely consider Barclays.
