About You
I thought it was good as it gave me a opportunity to understand the tech side of Barclays which I would not have gotten from working in a bank in London. There were some talks that I did not find interesting as there was a lot of repetition some days however, certain talks such as the cyber security talk grabbed me
I was very appreciative that people took lots of time out of their day jobs to show us what they did. However, sometimes I felt like a child still due to the way I was spoken too. This was not recurring therefore this did not impact my week much or changed my opinion of the week as there is always some kind of hierarchy.
There was lots of support. Joanna was extremely helpful when it came to deciding whether or not to do the interview at the end. For someone like me who wasn't sure about doing the interview, I was given a lot of support to make sure I was making the right decision for myself.
Team building skills was a big thing I learnt here. Not only think but, the main thing I learnt was the way other people operate and think. One talk in the morning that involved a personality quiz gave me an insight into the different types of people out there and how they think.
The Company
Was extremely well organised. Although there were times where the talk would run over into lunch. This run over lead to people to missing part of their lunch or not having time to eat there lunch. Other than this the days were very well structured. I can tell they spent a lot of time on the schedule.
Was an extremely friendly atmosphere and everyone on the week was extremely friendly. Everyone got along really well and no one was left out. Even though it was a working environment, we were still able to joke around and have fun when it came to the group projects and lunch.
I feel like they spent a lot of time trying to get people to understand what roles there were in the firm. Everyone also explicitly stated that there was lots of availability to grow and move around different sectors in at Barclays. This gave me an insight into the fact that I didn't have to stay with a role if I didn't want to keep to it.
Was very valuable as a few people decided that this wasn't the right thing for them. Although there was a lot of networking, I would have rather of sat at their desks and actually WATCH what they did everyday then them just talk at us. I find visual learning a lot more beneficial.
Everything Else
Yes lots of employees. There was many people that came to the networking event that gave opportunity to meet different people at each event. There wasn't an opportunity to meet people from other firms such as the tech companies Barclays buy there software from and other companies that may work with Barclays.
There were many opportunities for networking at the Barclays spring week. There was a junior networking breakfast, senior networking lunch and a dinner networking event that comprised of light drinking and chat. The food that the lunch was very good. I thought the networking opportunities were very beneficial to making career choices.
Definitely, if they are interested in working for a bank exploring the tech side is very important as most young people will not know yet 100% what they want to go into was there would not have had the opportunity to discover new things about themselves. This gives them the opportunity to do so.
