About You
based at the main technology center it was a very different experience. Everyone is very friendly, I went through a detailed insight into the main aspects of Barclays technology and also what each sector consists off. There's something for everyone, even if you do not come from a technical background there are plenty of jobs and teams around.
Barclays are very welcoming, everyone is friendly and kind and people seem really happy to work here. The core values that barclays promote are lived by from most if not all employees. During work shadowing sessions senior members took time out to explain and give insight into what they do and are very open to contacting them outside business hours.
From the moment I applied and got accepted the HR reps have been in close contact with me. Since the Week started everyday the HR reps are there to help and support us with any problems or questions we have. Even some staff that have come in for a session with us are very open to answering questions and supporting us if we have shown passion.
During the week we only had a few skills based workshops, including CV and leadership. So the week was not really focused on developing skills rather than more networking and gaining an insight to the company. The networking experience will really help me in the future. But in terms of my degree studies nothing has really been added or will help.
The Company
The insight week had a vigorous 5 day plan where everyday was planned down to the minute. Through the week we had various talks and insights into the bank and each of the talks were all well planned and apart from a few technical hiccups overall the week flowed well and was well planed.
The best part about the week were the people. Both other interns and the staff on-site. People were so friendly, happy and well motivated. The first day or two were slow but as we got to know each other we all opened up and the HR reps with us got to know us better.
They did try to tailor the week according to your needs, in the sense that if you came from a non technical background then you would maybe have more non technical staff with you or if you came from a more technical background then you would have more staff and insights from that background.
During the week we went through most if not all of the major roles of the bank in technology and covered what is it that they do. Having a lot of time with recent grads as well as more senior staff as well helped me understand what I would get myself into.
They focused a lot of RISES, their core values that they promote. It is literally everywhere and they focus a lot on it. Not only do the senior staff live by this but the new grads also have expressed how seriously barclays take this and how they conduct business in this manor.
During the week it really helped me decide what path i would be looking at if I joined or applied at the firm. The talks were were insightful and contained enough details for me to see if I saw myself in that role or if I would get bored or if it did not interest me.
Everything Else
They pay well and take care of you.
We had a lot and I mean a lot of networking events. Breakfasts, lunch, dinner, talks, panel sessions and the list goes on. my LinkedIn literally doubled after the week. People take time out both senior and junior for these events and are very open and friendly to have a conversation.
People take time out both senior and junior for these events and are very open and friendly to have a conversation. They encourage questions and are open for a drink of you wanted or just a chat. They seem relaxed and chill and just happy to be there and do not look down on you.
Around the campus you can see the various activities they do. Staff also expressed the various different societies and different clubs such as sports drama speaking. ect
Useful if you wanted to go into Tech
