About You
I really enjoyed the variety of the spring week. It included many talks and technology showcases from many areas such as financial crime, cyber and solution architects. I particularly enjoyed the networking sessions with Barclays employees as I was able to get a better idea of what it's like to work here, as well as gaining a better insight into the different roles that they do.
The Barclays HR team looked after us very well throughout the week, making sure we were given a lot of information through talks and technology showcases, as well as getting over a hundred members of staff from Barclays from Radbroke and all the way from London to come see us in person.
We were given a lot of support during our week here, regularly checking on us making sure we were getting the best out of this unique experience. I also heard that this is also the first time they held a Technology spring week at Radbroke which is why I think they were extra helpful in making sure everything was running smoothly.
During this week we had to work on a group project based on open banking, which we then had to present to a panel of senior judges at Radbroke. This definitely improved my teamwork and presentation skills, which I can use with all aspects of my degree and future jobs. I also became quite interested in coding, and I hope to develop this skill which may prove useful with my Maths degree.
The Company
I think it was well structured as they gave us many talks during the first couple of days to give us a better idea of what Barclays is all about, and a good insight into the different areas of the Technology division. This then allowed us to network better with juniors and seniors during the next few days.
It was a very friendly atmosphere here at Radbroke. Radbroke Hall itself simply feels like a campus and I personally would prefer to work in this sort of environment. The people I spoke to here were all very very friendly and open, employees and my peers, and I hope to come back to Radbroke one day.
After having spoken to some of the employees here, I got a better idea of what a full time role here would be like. They said that it is quite a relaxed atmosphere, people don't generally come in suits, and quite a lot of the time people choose to work from home on some days during the week.
This spring week gave me a better insight into all the different types of roles availlable in the Technolofy division, be it coding related jobs, more business-management oriented jobs, and even those that a bit of both. I am now considering the business analyst role considering my current skillset as this role is very diverse and I may also consider converting to a more code-related role if I choose to, since I heard that it is very easy to move between jobs if desired.
Everything Else
Yes we had several networking sessions, junior and senior networking lunches and dinners where we met people from all divisions, leanring about how they got into the job they're in now, and why they chose Barclays. We also had two work shadowing sessions where we met some employees from the Mainframe team, and a Managing Director, Programme Manager from the financial crime division. They were able to make it very interesting for us without going too technical into what they do.
Yes, because Radbroke is like a campus, there are many activites such as joining sports clubs at this location.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend. This technology spring week doesn;t just have to be for people who have done coding, programming etc, there are so many roles available that can cater to a wide range of needs. During the spring week we had students coming from many non-technical backgrounds such as those studying Geography and Business Management, and a lot of the employees here didn't have technical backgrounds either.
