About You
It was interesting, but maybe a little overbearing. The insight was very valuable and I felt exposed to a lot of different areas of FinTech, however, it was not as personalised as one would have liked, albeit it's totally understandable considering I was there for a week.
Barclays clearly is making an effort to impress their interns and drive their onboarding. I felt valued in the sense that I knew that the company were investing heavily in their intern groups.
There were always people readily there to help, which was nice. Financially, the week was very well managed. Guidance was good - we were always aware of what was happening due to the app.
I think experience about FinTech will help me in further career development. So far as a week goes, it was a good amount of information given.
The Company
It was well structured, but it was a very packed week. Sitting through many talks was quite tiring, and I would have definitely preferred spacing/reducing the number of talks in preference of more interactive activities.
Throughout the day, atmosphere was fantastic and people were generally having a good time; however, after a very long day (8am - 6pm) people really didn't have the energy to socialise etc.
Financially, I felt like they invested a lot in their spring interns. However, in terms of the time of people with specialised skills; very little. It was mostly people around my age talking to me, which isn't so valuable as their enthusiasm cloaks the facts you're trying to get to.
Again, the week wasn't really specialised to skillsets, so it was hard to see where in the organisation you'd fit in, but I think we could gauge the level at which Barclays would trust their interns and the responsibilities they would give them.
Much emphasis on culture. RISES is forever engraved in my brain.
I'm still clueless, but I am aware of different roles that lie FinTech. It was useful to peak my interest in certain areas, but didn't give the insight in those topics in a personalised manner.
Everything Else
Many - work shadowing, networking meals, you name it.
Isn't this the same question as above?
Yes
Yes - it's good to gauge what FinTech involves.
